Broken Yolk Cafe — Restaurant in San Diego

I travel quite a bit and this is hands down my favorite place for breakfast in the entire country. Yes, you read that right, "the entire country."

It's hard to find restaurants that are consistent in their quality and service. While I haven't been to any other Broken Yolk location, I can confirm that the Broken Yolk Cafe on Garnet Ave (Pacific Beach) consistently over delivers in value every single time. The food is delicious, well priced, and the entire staff are so friendly, attentive, and always provide a welcoming and memorable experience.

Whenever my family and I are in town we always try to arrive in San Diego just in time for breakfast at Broken Yolk. If we don't make it in time, we're there first thing in the morning to really feel like "we're back in San Diego." The past two years we went here for breakfast on Christmas Day and New Years. We've been going to BYC for years and have have never left disappointed.

Whenever we bring family and friends here for their first time they're instantly hooked. I recently took a friend there for his first time, and halfway through breakfast he put his fork down and said, "Bro...this is the best breakfast place I've ever been to."

Pro tips

For early risers there are a few daily specials from 7am-9am.

If it's a sunny day opt to sit outside on the rooftop if it's open.

Get the blueberry pancakes and make it a combo by adding eggs and sausage/bacon. You're welcome!

Worst place in PB for breakfast. We've been here before and weren't impressed but thought we'd give it another try this morning. We arrived at 10:01 am and we're told there was a 5-10 min wait. No problem. We waited 5 mins to be seated upstairs. It was 25 mins before our waitress showed up. She didn't bother to apologize for taking so long to get to us. We put our order in and noticed she took the orders of two other tables before putting ours in. 35 mins later we still hadn't gotten our food and not even an update from our waitress. Folks that came in after us had already gotten their meals and had time to finish. We had now been seated for an hour and hadn't gotten fed or heard from our waitress. She stood at the table next to us and gossiped with two lady's for well over 5 mins. We finally gave up and left. While leaving I spoke to a manager who was apologetic and assured us that this wasn't acceptable or normal. About that time our waitress came down and told us our food was ready. I told her in front of the manager that we were leaving because of the slow service. Instead of apologizing she wanted to argue and make excuses like "I dont cook the food." She acted non chalant and gave me a "I couldn't care less" attitude. The manager offered us a voucher to come back another day and asked if we wanted to take the food with us. I declined both offers and will never go back. There are far to many places in PB for a local to eat to even think about...

My initial experience at this location was delightful, starting right from the dedicated parking for customers, which had ample available spots.

Upon entering, the festive decorations set a relaxed and casual atmosphere that immediately caught our attention.

Karen greeted us warmly and suggested dining on the rooftop. She kindly provided a brief history of the place, mentioning her extensive 20-year tenure and her genuine passion for her work. We were promptly seated, and our orders were taken without delay.

We sampled the following dishes:

Steak and Eggs with Hashbrowns and Muffin - My medium rare steak was excellently prepared, tender, and juicy, accompanied by fluffy scrambled eggs.

Pomegranate Mimosa - This recommendation perfectly complemented the sunny rooftop setting.

Acai Bowl - A delightful sweet and savory brunch option.

Iced Matcha Latte - As a fan of matcha lattes, I found this rendition sweet and creamy, hitting the mark.

Overall, my visit was thoroughly satisfying. The service was exceptional, with everyone exuding friendliness and cheerfulness towards all guests. Additionally, the food portions were ample and delicious. We've unanimously agreed that this Broken Yolk Cafe location is one we'll...
