Wow! What I thought was just another hole in the wall mom and pop place is actually a beautiful restaurant amazing quality Greek food and great value for the price. We ordered a feast of $50 worth of food to try...here is what we liked.
Our two favorites: Best version of Greek salad we have had...homemade dressing was great, the small salad was actually quite large and we shared it. +Amazing grilled vegetable wrap, this is what grilled vegetables should taste like.
+The gyro wrap- it was kind of fancy, really good quality meat and veggies...almost too fancy, we are used to greasy cheap gyros lol. +The avgolemono soup- very interesting and probably an acquired taste. Glad to try new Greek food but once was enough. Red potato and aioli dressing- potatoes were great on their own. I liked dipping the aioli dressing with the pita triangles. Galacto boreko dessert- very interesting with the rose water, was a nice new kind of Greek dessert to try but I think I prefer baklava we accidentally ordered pocket pita for dipping into all the nice extra sauces we ordered on the side...the one we should have picked was the thicker smaller triangle pita. *update: toasting the pocket pitas make it great for dipping sauces
Overall can't wait to try other wraps and dishes and desserts here, and when COVID restrictions ease up, am excited to dine here in person for the beautiful atmosphere. Great service for pick up, was ready in the 30min they said when we ordered it online via their website. Their website has pics of everything btw, makes it super easy to order especially if you arent that familiar with Greek food. Very happy with our sample feast tonight and we...
Read moreWe had dinner at Cafe Athena on a Tues night at 7 pm. We made reservations but I don't think they were necessary. There is indoor and outdoor seating and we chose to eat inside. The restaurant is located inside a shopping center with a parking lot. We tried this place based on a recommendation from a Greek friend. We tried the calamari, saganaki, spanakopita, papoutsakia, moussaka, and chicken couscous. The calamari and spanakopita tasted fine but I didn't think they were anything special. The saganaki is cheese that is flamed table side. The cheese is warm and gooey a bit boozy with the brandy. Although the cheese is really good, the pita bread served with it is mediocre. Of the three entrees we had, the moussaka was my favorite. It felt like a lasagna but without the pasta (which you don't miss) - the meat was really well flavored and the eggplant and zucchini were really tender. The chicken couscous was also really good - the stewed veggies were really flavorful in all of the spices. I enjoyed the food here. I can't speak for it being authentically Greek but we enjoyed the meal...
Read moreHad an awesome visit to cafe Athena for dinner last week with a mid-sized bachelor party. I was hoping for a bit of an elevated experience and they gave just that.
To start on atmosphere. It’s a lively spot with modern decor and lots of lighting. The area is spacious and the table we had was perfect for a large group. We also had a reservation which was handled well.
Service throughout the night was solid. They did a good job taking care of us and answering any requests.
I thought my Ares drink was super refreshing and the perfect mix of ingredients. The food as well was really tasty. We started with a few of the dips which were perfectly puréed and packed with flavor. The mains were large and full of flavor as well. Everyone seemed to really enjoy their meal and things felt fresh and vibrant.
A great spot to go and grab a quick drink or sit down for a nice meal with a group. A nice break from some spots closer to the...
