First off, THE.BISCUITS.ARE.FIRE. A tiny hint of maple honey butter on top (I think) which leads into a perfectly pillowy on the inside/slightly crispy on the outside biscuit. I’m not a big maple fan but this was a light enough touch and it went so well. YUM.
My son and I did a sampling (via delivery) for lunch. Tastes like good homemade grocery store food (in a good way, not over processed/conceptualized). The chicken tenders with the salt and pepper seasoning and onions and peppers were great. The chicken tenders pulled apart easily into bite sized pieces. Quality was on par with most chicken-focused joints. I dipped in ranch, house sauce, and honey mustard which were all decent. Macaroni salad was solid, potato salad surprised me - it was not as bland as I was expecting for a restaurant (homemade is always so much better, but this was good). The jambalaya was a little dry but had good flavor. The spicy fries are good. The serving size of the sides is maybe a 1/4 pint. Definitely get the buy-1-get-1. I would not pay $5.50 for 1/4 pint, but...
Read moreAbsolutely amazing! THE best southern style fried chicken place in San Diego (yes, better than Popeyes). Because it's located in 99 Ranch, so I didn't have my expectation too high, oh boy was I wrong! First things first, the chicken. The best thing about it is that everything adds to and preserves the natural flavor of the chicken instead of overpowering it. The Cajun seasoning is right on point, you can taste the flavor but it's not overpowering, more importantly, it really brings out the original flavor of the chicken. The batter and skin are nicely crispy, yet you can still feel the texture, not overly crunchy that it hurts your jaw. The meat is so juicy and so tender that you almost don't realize it's fried chicken! With the creamy honey mustard sauce, which I also highly recommend, every bite brings pleasure to your mouth. The biscuit is also incredible! The salty buttery flavor almost melts in your mouth with every bite. The mashed potato is also quite pleasant to enjoy with...
Read moreI had the chicken tenders, and I thought they were extremely "meh". They weren't bad, but they weren't good: they were barely warmer than room temperature, the seasoning was alright (not amazing, but not bad), the chicken itself wasn't very crunchy at all, and the price point is higher than similar fast food fried chicken places that I think have much better (and much fresher) fried chicken. It was a convenient place to grab some decent fast food if you're already shopping at 99 Ranch (though I think even the chicken you can get from Vons just across the street is better than this), but I absolutely would not go out of my way to get food from here when there's so many places to get much better fried chicken so close by (e.g. Popeye's, KFC, and Epic Wings right next to each other on Convoy, or Padadak and Cross Street fairly close by if you want something nicer).
TL;DR: Not bad, but not good, and not as cheap as you'd expect for...
