05/2024 Ordered the Cilantro Mayo Ahi and Shoyu Ahi Medium Bowl with a salad base. Second visit back and did not disappoint yet again. The fist here tastes great and this is again another great choice. Learned now that they rotate their options daily so the options are not always the same for the tune or salmon you'd like. There is always a separate line for these poke bowls so be aware of that.
04/2024 Ordered the Medium (two scoop) bowl of Spicy Ahi and Miso Salmon and another Medium bowl of Pearl Harbor and Garlic Salmon; both with salad as the base. Also added a side of mac and cheese and plain white rice. The ahi tuna in these bowls have a really nice soft texture that melts in your mouth. Spicy ahi is creamy with the spicy mayo sauce that they use and the spice is very light. Pearl Harbor tuna is sweet from the oyster sauce and does not taste too salty. Both salmon are firmer than the tuna but still fresh tasting and slice through your teeth just as easily. The Miso Salmon tastes creamy like the Spicy Ahi. The Garlic Salmon does have a notable delicious garlic flavor to it. Overall, this is a great place to come by for a poke bowl, in fact there's a separate line just to order them. The Macaroni salad side and the rice side both taste good if you want to carbo load. Rice is firm and doesn't feel overcooked or undercooked. Line does get long so coming earlier is better. Parking is plentiful in the plaza. Outdoor seating area is just enough, there are large stone steps nearby to eat too. Very limited indoor...
Read moreSo glad I tried this place! It’s been saved on my Yelp for a minute now. When we pulled up parking wasn’t too bad, there was a parking lot right next to the building so don’t stress if all the street parking is taken. Once we walked up we say people sitting on the benches Ewing their food and it was just a nice and calm inviting place. When we walked in the line was right at the door. From the time we got online until we ordered was about 15/20 minutes. Not too bad honestly and good food is always worth waiting for.
We ended up ordered a Poke plate with half salad, half brown rice, with Garlic Salmon Poke, Ono-licious and the Gingah spread poke! The Garlic Salmon Poke was nice and fresh, good flavor and just perfect honestly no complaints! The Ono-Lucius was perfectly flavored, also very fresh and they drizzled on they’re teriyaki sauce which really brought the whole thing together, honestly I would come back and get it again, and the Gangah was tuna that was also fresh, but was lightly seasoned; still good! But just not as enjoyable as the other two pokes. The kalua potk steamed bao bun was very tender and delicious. I wanted to order a spam misubu but didn’t see it on the menu when we got to the front of the line. Then, after I paid, there was a small little sign that said misubis and the price but at that point it was too late :/ but I’ll get it next time! Over such a good place! Can’t...
Read moreIn my opinion the best poke place in San Diego. With that said, I’ll never come back here. Below are some of the reasons why:
Believe all of the other reviews saying the line is unnecessarily slow and service is terrible. Waited over an hour in line because they only had one kid behind the counter doing the serving and checking out, three others walking back and forth doing nothing, making their own plate and then going on a lunch break… during lunch rush! No joke, at one point the line did not move for over 15 minutes. There are two lines - one for poke, and one for non-poke. Except people went into the non-poke line and also ordered poke so I’m not sure what’s happening. I ordered the 3 scoop poke and then compared it to the guy who got 2 scoops in front of me. He had WAY more fish! Literally half to one third of the people in line are complaining about how slow it is or leaving the line because they can’t wait for one hour on their lunch break. At their old location, the line went quick. A couple scoops of rice and poke should not take very long.
I keep saying “kids” in my review because everybody behind the counter looks like they’re 18 years old and hate their jobs. If you don’t mind waiting over an hour in line for a small portion of poke go ahead and try this place. I’m taking my business somewhere else from now on which is unfortunate because the food is...
