Before I say anything, I'm pointing out that I'm a Supertaster (aka fussy eater). I can't eat anything bitter, which includes overcooked/ burned food.
As nice as the owner is, I've been disappointed two of the four times I've ordered food from here. I love the dumpling soup, but that really is it from the entire menu -- most of which doesn't interest me
First was a couple of weeks ago when I thought I'd try the bibimibap, despite no crispy rice. The meat (yeah, I'm taking a few months break from being vegan) was disappointing -- so overcooked it was like chewing twigs, and after one spoon of the rest, threw out the entire $15 order but ate the dumpling soup.
The second time was today. I went for dumpling soup, and the owner assumed I wanted two orders since I had that last time. But I like to support local small business and allowed for the two orders.
Except there was no dumplings left. My money was paid and there were no dumplings. She suggested kimchi fried rice again, which she suggested before I asked for dumpling soup. I hate cabbage not a fan of kimchi. I switched the order to two chicken cutlets with rice and salad, and had to pay extra to cover the difference.
Got home, only to find the sauce cups were not on properly (a problem at a lot of restaurants in SD) and had spilled all over the bag. Great. But worse, the chicken cutlet was cut into tiny thin strips, which I intensely dislike, and nearly half were burnt, the rest so overcooked and tasteless. They were worse than the beef slices in the aforementioned bibimbap.
The salad (lettuce with a couple of tiny slices of cucumber) was covered in some thick, yellow tangy dressing that didn't appeal. And the sauce for chicken was barely there and tending to sweet. At the very least, a Korean-style curry sauce would have been nice, but it wouldn't have saved the chicken strips.
I feel very bad writing this because this is a small biz and the owner is very nice. But if you are a supertaster like myself, you may not like the food here. Obviously, either the cook doesn't know to prepare food, or someone doesn't know how to season dishes.
Two strikes and I stop wasting my money. I won't be back. There's also nothing here...
Read moreI unfortunately forget to provide reviews to places that do a good job, but this place is so exceptional I want to make sure I do not make the same mistake. The wife and I love traditionally flavored Korean food, but finding authentic places with exceptional flavors do not always come easy. This place has such an inviting and friendly staff so you will definitely feel welcome. Plus, the flavor of their dishes were incredible. All of the meat was perfectly cooked and the flavors were exceptional and balanced. The side dishes perfectly complimented the meals. I honestly would give this place more than 5 stars if it was possible. Please try this place at least once, you will not regret it and you will probably have to go back after your first visit. The wife and I are already planning on our next visit there so we can try more...
Read moreThis hole in the wall is probably the best thing that has come to Mira Mesa in awhile. The food is amazinggg!!!!! Ive had the pork and chicken cutlet lunch special, the beef tofu soup, and the gimbap and always get either the fish cake or potato salad from the fridge. The food is made with love and you really taste it. Sue is soooo sweet and always has a smile on her face and it just makes the experience so much better. I truly hope this mom and pop shop stays and thrives because the portions and quality for the price is amazing! Everything is seasoned perfectly in my opinion, not too strong in flavor but far from bland, so you can always and salt and pepper or hot sauce if needed. Can’t wait to come back and try...
