Excellent menu featuring a wide variety of coffee and non-coffee beverages - my favorite is the Chai, made in-house (no store bought concentrates here!) The care that goes into their product is something you don't find every day. They feature a rotating selection of coffee from niche roasters such as Onyx, based out of Arkansas. There is always a nice selection of treats to go with your drink, all made locally, so they're always fresh. There are vegan options here as well, with multiple dairy-alternatives for your beverage (my favorite is the Oat milk! Seriously, try it!) Sam, Ben, Crystal, Riley, Jen and the whole crew are always friendly and fun to chat with. If you know anything about the SoCal music scene or you're into hardcore/punk/metal, you may even run into some familiar faces here... 10/10 I plan on supporting and visiting Heartwork, any and every...

We live in Seattle but often come to San Diego to visit family in Mission Hills. Heartwork has become our go-to coffee spot, and not just because it's very walkable and near lots of other fun cafes and shops.

We like Heartwork first and foremost because the beans they use are delicious and because the baristas consistently know how to pull a good shot. The place is always clean and- bonus for us- there is always something yummy and vegan in the bake case. Last time we went we bought a couple pounds of coffee and they gave us our drinks on the house. Awesome.

It also has a sweet ambiance. Simple and relaxing. You can sit outside on the sidewalk or inside at the window or one of the tables. It's a straightfoward spot that doesn't pretend to be anything other than a coffee bar serving really excellent coffee, and for that, we will keep...

I’ve been coming here for three years and I just have to say this place is a cornerstone of Mission Hills and adds so much to the neighborhood. There is an aesthetic that is wholly theirs which I like (I especially like the Minor Threat inspired sheep on the side building), they roast their own beans and have a great merch line done by hand selected artists. I personally like their cold brews a lot. Aside from great coffee and knowledgeable baristas, they host other local artists and small business owners to do seasonal markets outside of their coffee shop which is fun and makes for great gift shopping. I have gotten a few things for family this way. Kim, the owner, is a wonderful person and never hesitates to say hi and be helpful. Overall, it’s a lovely place to enjoy coffee outside at one of the greatest neighborhoods...

Heart work, indeed. This coffee is a valentine to anyone that loves craft coffee and values an independent spirit. I am so lucky that they’re around the corner. While there is no indoor seating their online ordering has always been such a time saver and the line always moves quickly. Their staff is wonderful- they’ve never failed to make my day better. You’ll have to navigate the neighborhood parking when you visit and there is construction across the street right now that can complicate the process but there are two parking structures across University and a quick walk down the street. If you want to see the best of SD’s craft coffee scene - they’re a highly ranked recommendation. Cheers, Heartwork. See you soon. <3
