Jilberto's Mexican Food — Restaurant in San Diego

I don't get taco shops like this, how do they stay open? You are literally 4 miles from the border, within spitting distance of multiple other taco shops, and your food sucks this bad? How? Are you a drug front, is that it? It would explain the terrible food.

Really though, the people are decent enough and get the food out fairly speedy, but it's just a tasteless mess. Super overcooked, flavorless, gristly meat and modest portions! If you are going to skimp on quality seasoned meat, the least you can do is give me a GIGANTIC amount of it. Heck, the market right up the road sells seasoned meat for $3/lb that tastes great, go buy it from them!

The salsa also tastes like it came from a can, I actually tossed it and used some salsa we had in the fridge already.

Oh, and lets not forget, no drive through. Why oh why would you even lease a space with no drive through as a taco shop? WHY!? So now it's Saturday morning, i'm hungry from a night of drinking, and I have to get out of my car to order a breakfast burrito, which I have to drown in canned salsa to get some flavor out of it (p.s. thanks for the ultra thinly sliced deli meat ham); I guess I should be thankful the burrito is half the size of any decent Mexican place, my suffering is...

I’m a local; I grew up in the area and in Mexico and I’ve been eating here for over a decade. I can vouch for how great the Mexican food is here. 👀👌 Has the best carne asada fries in the city and the quality of the food has always been the best. The horchata is also the best, most refreshing that I’ve ever had from a Mexican food joint. Perfect to have in the summer!✨ And I don’t say this lightly; I actively check out other joints and Jilberto’s is, hands down, still the best—and it shows, as most times I grab food, there’s always a line or wait time! There’s folks always popping in and out for pick up, too! 😏 The service has always been great, and the food is prepared fast. The longest I’ve waited is 20-30min on a busy day. I'm a regular. I order at least twice a week. The other day I ordered carne asa Chips instead they gave me carne asada fries. When my husband got home with the food, I attempted to call them 25 times, no answer. So I decided to go today and let the girl working the cashier what happened. She looked at me and laughed. And went about her business. So I decided to leave and call. The answer and I asked the person her name. I'm pretty sure her name was Mirna . She usually answers at night. She can be rude . So she didn't want to give me her name. She told me whst dud I need . I asked to speak to the manager or person in charged. She said what do you want. She refuse to provide her name . She said I'll let you talk to Ramon the cook. I explained to him what happened. He said he couldn't help me. Then I asked foe hus manager name. He said nope.
