I came here on Saturday, January 6th, 2018 at around 12:15. It was their second day of grand re-opening after their building got caught on fire in 2015. Prior to that, I only visited here once when I was younger, but I never vividly remember much other than it was a popular spot. My Vietnamese friend once told me that everyone who was selling sandwiches were a little happier knowing that K Sandwiches are out. Unfortunately for them, they are back in business. Welcome back and great way to start the new years. Anyways, we were very lucky to find a parking spot. Good luck in finding one if you are coming here because the place is small. The line was very long, it started from the register, wrapped around the store, then outside of their store to the parking lot. I was waiting there for a good 1 hour and 10 minutes. We did not order until 13:25. I ordered K Special banh mi sandwich and a passion fruit slushie. Then, it was another 25 minutes of waiting for our food. My drink came out first and then the sandwich which is another 10 minutes of waiting. Their little daughter was cute trying to work so hard calling numbers out. Was it worth the wait? Well, yes! The banh mi sandwich bread tasted crunchy, the sandwich had both meat loaf and cold cut ham with cilantro, carrot, and radish. The jalapeno did make it a bit spicy for me, but the passion fruit slushie drink made it go away. The drink was flavorful and prices were good for what it is. Most of the food items are between $3-5 dollars. There is also another line inside as they sell hot pastry. They also sell various Vietnamese desserts and many different types of drinks. That line is way less crowded and my friend bought a jalapeno ham croissant while we waited for our food. That was delicious. My friend liked the food too. The only complaint we have there is the wait since it is a grand re-opening so they are working on their kinks. I also wish they had free wifi and a television to watch some NFL playoffs since we were waiting that long. Compared to many Vietnamese sandwich shop, this is probably the best one in San Diego and can rival Lee's Sandwiches in Orange County/LA. Lines shouldn't be too bad once time passes by. I am impressed by their quality of food and service. They start off the New Years with a 5 star...
Read moreI have eaten here in the past and it has been fine. Better than fine. I really don't like leaving bad reviews. If I don't like a place I generally just don't go back. In this case I feel like a negative review is warranted. My wife, daughter, and I went in for lunch today. It was busy, but not crazy busy. My wife doesn't eat meat, so I suggested she order the vegetable Bahn Mi sandwich. I ordered a turkey & cheese. Her sandwich was pretty much all jicama sticks and not much else. There was an actual stalk of cilantro in it. Not a thin stalk either. A big thick stem with a couple of giant leaves on it. There was also an unknown ingredient in there that basically tasted like cardboard. A Bahn Mi sandwich should have pickled veggies on it. Right? Carrot, cucumber, possibly jicama, cilantro, and onion. That's pretty much what every other Bahn Mi I've eaten has, and I've eaten hundreds. Also the bread was stale. My turkey sandwich had absolutely no condiments on it. No mayo, mustard. Nothing. Very little turkey. It was mostly lettuce. They attempted to put tomato on it and one of the slices was the stem end of the tomato. I went back and pointed out there was no condiments on there and they sort of tossed me a couple of mayo packets. By the time we realized how crappy these sandos were, they were half eaten and the place had gotten crowded. At the prices they are charging, there is just no excuse for lackluster, carelessly assembled sandwiches. It's a real shame because I have really liked K in the past and have sent others there as a place...
Read moreQuick summary: ridiculously cheap and decent.
The bf and I were wandering the area and finally stopped by recently. We were immediately blown away not only by the number of options they have for sandwiches and other bakery items but also with their ridiculously cheap prices. $2.99 for a bahn mi (grilled pork and grilled beef are what we had) that is longer than 6 inches. What? Yes, it's true. They fill it too with all the typical stuffings - onions, carrots, cilantro, and jalapeno (side note - you can request to remove it or have it on the side as its standard in all their sandwiches). Now it's not ginormous and stuffed but pretty darn good for $3. I personally think it could use more meat and mayo but pretty decent. The pork itself too could have been more flavorful but again for $3 that's good. The bread i think was the best part of their sandwiches.
We also had their fresh shrimp and pork spring rolls and those were good. For $2.50 for two fully stuffed rolls, i should have gotten more! Also a must is their ice coffee. You may want two of those for one person. They are addicting and strong. Any coffee drinker out there will agree.
They are quick and inexpensive. It's a spot if you're only looking for something small or a quick lunch option, and not looking to fill up...
