One of my favorite spots for BBH (Bun Bo Hue) and Bun Rieu! If you're at a lost of what to order whenever you go out for Viet food and only go with the standard pho or broken rice dishes, I highly recommend giving BBH a shot!
They have a good mixture of seafood dishes you don't see a lot of in a city full of the typical pho, spring roll and vermicelli type of Viet fare restaurants. Try their clam dish that comes with the shrimp based "chips/crisps."
The BBH rice noodles are bit thicker but has the texture that sort of resembles udon noodles with pork as the broth base in case you're deciding on deviating from your default Viet dish orders. Get it with everything. Be aware there is pork blood that is usually one of the main ingredients but be open-minded and take a bite (or the entire piece), you may replenish yourself if you're iron deficient.
Make note it's cash-only. And on a hot day, you will probably feel like you're in a sauna as they don't have AC but you'll be fine as you'll cool down from sweating from the heat + hot...
Read moreHand down, this is the most authentic vietnamese restaurant you'll find in this area, if not in all of SD.
Tiny hole in the wall family owned restaurant that serves only a limited selection of menu items. Place is small, and seats about maybe 20 people, and that's a maybe. Cash only so make sure you're not walking in here without some.
They have well known dishes like the classic Bun bo hue, Bun Rieu, Com tam/broken rice plates, and Bun/vermicelli noodles...
Then they also have the lesser known stuff like Banh Nam, and Banh Beo, and Banh Bot Loc La.
Their Bun bo hue is amazing, a bit spicy but really flavorful and delicious. Their Bun Rieu is also really good but I was sad that there were only a few pieces of the crab meat/ cake in there.
We come here regularly and the food is consistent every time. We also always get a order or two of the Banh Nam to go as it's one of my favorite foods and really...
Read moreA cash only Vietnamese place that serves some unique dishes. (Update in October 2024:) The No. 1 beef noodle soup (Bun Bo Hue) was very good. It has very tender beef slices, tendon pieces, pork knuckle, coagulated pig blood chunks, and Vietnamese sausage (cha lua) with thick rice noodles (thicker than those in typical Vietnamese pho). The top layer of the soup is somewhat spicy, but the rest of it is not, and you can taste the beef, onions, green onions, cilantro, and other flavors.
(Original post in 2021) I only tried their small clams pancake, which came with a large crunchy thin rice cake and a small bowl of small clams stir-fried with onions, garlic, and chilies. It’s very tasty and a little spicy.
Will come back to try other items.
One thing to note: They have not updated the prices on their menu, yet. Please see the black and white...
