Montebello Cafe — Restaurant in San Diego

I wish I could give 10 stars! I recently discovered this gem of a coffee shop right in my neighborhood. It's located on the 1st floor of a medical building, so it's easy to miss if you don't know about it. I've been here 3 times so far, on my way to an appointment, and each time the coffee has been consistently delicious! He uses organic coffee, which is an extremely rare find in coffee shops, and is very important to me. I am a purist with my coffee, and my drink of choice is a Cortado (mix of 50% espresso/50% steamed milk). The 1st 2 times I visited, my Cortado was so expertly made, so today I decided to go for a straight-up double shot espresso (no milk). It was awesome! That's how I know a coffee is good, when I can drink it straight, nothing added! Next, the service here is just as exemplary as the coffee. He is so friendly and engaging, and he remembers his regulars. He is interested in his customers, and makes friendly conversation while he makes your drink. My family and I were vacationing in the area, on our way to the zoo, when I had a craving for a good iced coffee. We looked up nearby coffee shops on Mapquest and stopped here since it had 5 star reviews. Best decision of the day! I think I ordered the caramel vanilla latte, whatever it was, it was the best coffee drink I've had in a long time! And I frequent coffee shops more than I care to admit. It was our first full day in San Diego, and the owner was the first local we came across. He was so friendly and nice to my kids, gave us a great first impression of San Diego locals. Leo was very helpful and friendly. Try something new! I tried the Re-energizer with watermelon flavor. And I tried the Mazapan (the Mexican peanut candy) latte.
