I heard about this new pho place from a friend and had to come try it out for myself. I'm a big fan of pho and with all the competitive restaurants around San Diego, I came with high expectations. Reading some of the yelp reviews, I would agree the customer service is 5/5; very polite and attentive. As for parking it's not bad but depends on the time you go because this restaurant is in a plaza with other major businesses in its vicinity.
My friend and I did share a half an order of the egg rolls which was delicious but nothing spectacular to rave about. Quite similar to other places but smaller portion. As for the pho, the broth, it is tasty at first but became very salty come to halfway into the bowl. My friend had agreed that his bowl was salty as well. We both upped for the fresh flat noodles ($1+) which was very nice as not many other Vietnamese restaurants do not offer that. We both got regular bowl sizes and the portion was not as abundant compared to other restaurants. Quite disappointed.
I did place an order for take-out for my wife; regular sized pho p2 with fresh flat noodles. Everything was packaged perfectly and it came to my surprise that the portions were more for a (regular) take-out order. A decent first experience, modern decor (but no TV), great service, and memorable fresh noodles. Solid 4 stars place; would have rated 5 star but to me the broth was super salty. I'd give it another try if I were in the area but would be hard to come back when there are other closer places for pho...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreWent to grab lunch to go. Well, the food is good, and the portions are decent. However, I did ask the guy (cashier) if the chicken was plain or with BBQ (I usually don't eat Vietnamese food. I like it, but I've only had it a couple of times, so I don't know how or what to order) He said he didn't understand my question 2 times, and I decided to just have it the way it comes and eat it (I'm just not a big BBQ fan). Then comes my food and like I said, it was a to go order, so he brings my food in a knotted bag. I didn't care to open it because it's usual to have my food handed in a bag when it's a to go order. But I did I asked the cashier (same guy) if I could please get some soy sauce and Sriracha to go, he didn't say anything walks to the cart next to the register grabs a cup of Sriracha and hands it to me. I figured he probably didn't hear me when I asked for soy sauce, so I said, "And soy sauce as well, please." He tells me, "It's in the bag." So I trust him. I drive back to my workplace, and oh surprise, no soy sauce, no fork or chopsticks, no napkins, and overall a bad experience with...
Ā Ā Ā Read morePhenomenal bowl of pho. The broth is consistently good, the meats are fresh and well-cut bringing excellent mixes of texture and flavor to your bowl. They do not always ask, but if possible, request the flat rice noodles for a small upcharge. (freshly made in-house)
If you want leftovers, go with the large size, I am usually able to feed my kid and self, with a bit leftover for a second sitting. At this restaurant, large means large and they are not stingy with meats, noodles, or toppings. Fairly hole-in-the-wall experience with one of the best pho bowls in the county.
Good boba drinks, too, but it starts adding up if you grab other stuff off the menu. I go there strictly for the pho, and always leave satisfied and smiling. Now for the negatives: They open at 11am on weekends, they are either short staffed or have a lot of turnover and service sometimes suffers for it. If possible, go during off peak hours. Dinner has been a bit disappointing in terms of service and speed. (ZzZz waiting on food)
5/5 overall, never disappointed.
p.s. don't forget to ask for flat...
