Urbane Cafe — Restaurant in San Diego

Picked up sandwiches for a picnic date and glad we got a chance to try this place out!

They actually make the focaccia fresh. You can see them doing it as soon as you enter and it's a very good sign of a sandwich place.

We had used Uber eats to place the order but there were no options to customize in terms of asking for sauce to be kept on the side so we called and asked him to do that. They were very happy to oblige.

Cilantro Torta (marinated cilantro chicken, avocado, corn & black bean salsa, tomatillo salsa, NO CHEESE, fresno chilis, pickled onions, chipotle aioli) Very good flavor on this one! All the ingredients went well together and it did not feel like the cheese was missing at all. Really like how much chicken there was and everything was fresh and tasty.

Pastrami Tri Tip (pastrami tri tip, NO CHEESE, remoulade aioli, housemade apple coleslaw, bread and butter pickles) THIS WAS OUR FAVORITE SANDWICH! That pastrami with everything else going on was amazing. The remoulade aioli on its own was superb as well. Definitely needed to add the aioli in because it felt a little lacking in something without it. But that said, the cheese was not needed for sure. Just an overall good sandwich.

Since I had my car, Issac suggested that we try Urbane Cafe for lunch after a long training session at work. It's a short 5 minute drive, but the parking lot can get crowded, especially at lunch time. We ended up parking near the BevMo and walking over, which wasn't that long of a walk.

There was a line out the door when we arrived, but the cashiers worked fast and we placed our orders within a couple of minutes. They handed us a couple of buzzers and we found a table outside, which were nicely shaded by umbrellas.

Chicken Pesto and Sun-dried Tomato Sandwich. The best part of this sandwich was the focaccia bread. It tasted very fresh, although I think my sandwich could have been a bit more toasted (that's why it's a bit pale in the picture). The sandwich also came with a side salad with a balsamic vinaigrette dressing that went well with the sandwich. I think the only thing I would change about the sandwich is to have smaller sun-dried tomatoes because they were a little overwhelming when biting into the sandwich.

I had placed a phone order for 11 people and the guy who took my order seemed to have it all down but when I went to pick it up the cashier Josh said it would be ready in about 10 mins. I waited then come to find out my order was ready the whole time. I get back to my meeting and hand out the food and we were missing 3 meals from my order. I tried calling about 8 times and no one answered. I then had to drive back and ask for these 3 meals. What gets me is that I can't believe they were preparing orders before preparing mine that they obviously forgot to make. That took another 10 mins. If someone comes in and you forget to make something then make that order first because I had to waste time to go back. And please have someone answer the phone because that is...
