I live a block away from this place. I was so excited to try the tacos as I had heard good things. My partner and I went a couple weeks ago and ordered birria and carne asada tacos. I was blown away. Some of the best tacos I’ve had in San Diego. I told all my friends about this place. A week later my partner and I went back for round 2. I was super excited to have them again. We placed our order and paid cash as they only accept cash and Zelle. My partner paid with a $50 and the cashier asked his associate who was preparing the tacos for change. I watched this guy (who was wearing gloves) dig into his bag, pull out a wad of cash, hand it to the cashier then immediately dunk his hands into the chopped up cilantro and onions and spread it on the tacos. 🤮🤮🤮
I’m sorry but no. This completely ruined this place for me. I immediately cancelled my order and explained why. The cashier apologized and he said that the guy preparing the food can change his gloves if I wanted him to. What?!?! It’s disturbing that they didn’t understand the concept of cross contamination. The entire containers of cilantro and onions, not to mention the tacos themselves which he was handling, are all contaminated. This also tells me that if they don’t understand this, then they probably don’t understand or have not been educated on food safety in general. This is just what I witnessed. Imagine what I didn’t witness.
Needless to say, I won’t be coming back here . Which sucks because I REALLY loved the tacos. But I don’t care how good the food is, if it’s not sanitary, I’m immediately turned off. I will say that they didn’t give me any grief about a refund which is good. I hope they learn from this and send their employees / servers to food...

Unfortunately, Tacos El Flaco did not live up to the reviews. We placed a large order, spent a significant amount of money, and when we got back to our hotel, we discovered that half the order was missing and the food we did receive was completely incorrect.
To make things worse, the food had no flavor whatsoever—it was some of the most bland and underwhelming food we’ve ever had. There was no contact number available to report the issue, and we were too tired from traveling to drive back.
This was an extremely frustrating experience, and we will not be returning. I strongly suggest others look elsewhere for quality tacos and service. If i can give it zero...
