CAUTION

Long story short, a bartender at this place tried to take advantage of someone they thought was intoxicated/distracted and short change them. If you pay with cash, be weary!

Full details of what happened: I was in here on a Thursday night with a few of my buddies. The place wasn’t very crowded. I came in around 9 and we were greeted by a nice female bartender, she told us the specials, one of which was Stella midnight and it was 3.50. I thought I would give it a try so I ordered one for me and a friend. Over the course of the night I ordered the Stella special 3 times. Every time paying with cash from this same female bartender. Around 12:45am, there was just a few people in there and I went to the bar again to place the same order. However this time I went to a different side of the bar and was met by a male bartender. I ordered the same 2 Stella’s. The bartender says “ok $8” not thinking much into it or caring about the difference, I just hand the bartender a $20 and as he walked away to get the drinks and I get back to chatting with my friends. As he is getting my drinks, I started thinking this was strange because I had just paid $7 for the same drinks about an hour ago. Then, he came back with my change. He hands me $3 and a quarter. Now.... I am no math major but there is no way that was correct. I yell to him as he walked away and he pretended not to hear me. I went around the bar and got his attention and say “HEY, this isn’t right” holding out the money. His response to me is “tax, theres a tax!” As he walks away again. I have to walk around again to him and say “hey man I gave you a $20, I have been placing this same order all night and these drinks are $3.50, you shoulda given me $13 back. If you thought I gave you a $10, that’s still the wrong change”, his face looked a bit shocked. I think he didn’t expect me to pay attention or thought I was too intoxicated. As it was near 1am and most of the remaining patrons in here were quite intoxicated. he doesn’t respond or say anything, just runs over to the register and gives me a $19 and walks away. No apology or anything. I want others to know what happened to me, and to be cautious when paying with cast...

I used to enjoy visiting True North Tavern, but my recent experiences have been incredibly concerning, and I feel the need to share some serious issues that need addressing.

First, the health and safety standards here are a mess. I’ve heard there’s been multiple health department visits and fines, and it’s not hard to see why. During my last visit, the booths were flooded with water, creating a musty, unpleasant smell that clearly hadn’t been dealt with properly.

What’s even more alarming is the mold found in the beer lines. The drinks we ordered tasted off, and now I’m questioning the cleanliness and safety of anything served here. To make matters worse, the kitchen mysteriously shut down during service with no explanation, leaving many customers stranded without food orders.

The bathrooms are another nightmare. They’re filthy and unsafe, with fights breaking out and evidence of drug use. It’s become a place where you just don’t feel comfortable or safe.

It’s disappointing to see this decline, but until these issues are addressed, I cannot recommend True North Tavern to anyone. Health and safety should be non-negotiable, and sadly, that doesn’t seem to be a...

I came here with a group of friends, but the security guard didn't let us in. He said his boss received a message not to allow us entry. I asked if his boss was white, and he confirmed with a yes. I replied, "Makes sense." He then mentioned it was because of an incident involving a drunk girl at another location. I explained that the drunk girl who threw up had already been picked up and wasn't with us. He apologized.

The owner of 619 Brewery called the owner of True North, (another white owner) and told him not to let our group of Mexican girls in. This is very racist. The person who caused the issue was already taken care of and wasn't part of our group. Why are the bridesmaid and her friend being judged over someone else’s actions? It's super racist of the owner!!

I will advise friends not to visit this location. Please check the 619 Brewery review to see the full story. Imagine your sister-in-law being drunk and throwing up, and then everyone in your group being kicked out. It’s a bar! People drink! Yet, the True North manager, who is also white, was called to not let Mexican girls in?… LOL please don’t do taco Tuesday if you hate Mexicans so much. SMH. Sad...

Cool spot to hangout and watch sports. Their happy hour is great as well. Has a big variety of food for a fair price and it’s everyday which is nice. Back order on all the HH beer though so ask what is available. Had come to watch the fights, took about an hour to get them on tv. It was difficult to get our waitress to come to the table and order drinks. When I asked who I thought was our waitress to get another drink and close out the bill, there was a different waitress responsible for our table. Whole encounter was just really odd and put a dent in the experience.

The staff were friendly and efficient. The beer was cold and refreshing. The tots, while tasty, were not quite what I imagined when I ordered them. Stopped into watch the MLB All Star Game, while it pops up as a sports bar and I even saw it listed as an award winning sports bar, this is not a sports bar. It was more hipster meets geek. But still a good time. I loved the wide open windows that let the fresh air in and allowed you to watch the world walk by.

True North is a True Testament to Dive/Sport bar culture in a sea of gimmicks, novelties, and aesthetic. It’s simple yet reliable, as a True Tavern should be. With affordable drink options for the common bargoer, to various tvs and comfortable seating options for any sporting event. As for food, they’re one of the rare venues that allow for outside food from nearby venues - allowing for an established sense of community from a reliable source.
