I was excited to try this place since someone posted it on a vegan pg and was pumped on the sandwiches (got the BLT as posted), but was sadly disappointed. It was on the dry side and lacked a good pt of the greens (the thin layer you see was all there was), and tbh was on the skimpy side for a 10$ sandwich. If you're gonna charge that amount at least make it heafty enough so that I'm not hungry an hr later. I thought maybe it was the sandwich itself and was gonna give it another try, but looking at the other pictures on here... seems I might've gotten the 'bigger' one they offer. I can't imagine paying up to 14$ for a flattened sandwich that looks like I could make a better one at home. :( The drinks looked good, but for 3/4 the price of what the sandwich was, I had to skip it. (I'm not a Starbucks fan, so maybe if you're used to $8.50? drinks then you'll have no issue.) The muffins/pastries looked amazing as well and considered getting one, but a fly was chilling on the bottom level on the food and I just couldn't. I know some things are uncontrollable, but still....
Also a recommendation for being a bit more earth friendly (vibe I got being there), maybe pack your to-go sandwiches in a paper bag. The huge plastic shell for just a small sandwich was a bit unnecessary. If I had known I would've just asked to have it 'to eat there' and wrapped napkins on it. Just a cost...
Read moreThere are so many things I love about Ultreya. It's legitimately my favorite spot to grab a treat, and I must admit I do that quite often. This place has San Diego vibes all over it for me. Aside from great friendly down to earth service and ownership, they have a good menu of healthy drinks and treats, some even inspired by san diego herself. I first fell in love with their lavender latte with macadamia nut milk. Yes. MACADAMIA NUT MILK. Chai latte with lavender was the next evolution of drink order and now I am all about their matcha latte. Their butterfly effect is earthy and grounding. They also have VEGAN PASTRIES, and right now I can't get enough of their babkas. While you're waiting for your order you can browse their little local business corner where you can find candles, tarot cards, stickers, essential oils, clothes, and more. They also have another corner that hosts a book sharing shelf. This place is my favorite place to do computer work, good internet connection and outlets spread out, and there is always space inside and if you want to enjoy the sunshine, they have outdoor tables and seating (patio furniture new addition). I wish they were open til later since i'm a late starter and can't get enough of this place. but i know there is more that goes into this decision. I'm just grateful they are still here post pandemic and constantly growing...
Read moreMan, I really wanted to like this place so it saddens me to have to give it three stars. I stumbled upon Ultreya after getting my tires changed around the corner. They had a great array of vegan pastries and I ended up getting one plain croissant and one chocolate croissant along with a chai tea latte. This came out to $15 which I thought was pretty expensive, but considering my favorite vegan pastry shop in Hillcrest charges $5 for a croissant, I figured it would be worth it. Oh, how wrong I was...
So let me be clear, the house-made chai tea was worth every penny as it was likely the best I have had in my life (five stars). But the pastries... oh my gosh they had to have been a day old at least (one star). Probably more like two days. I couldn't eat more than two bites of my chocolate croissant despite how hungry I was.
I always want to support vegan eateries but I felt very ripped off by this place, plus the "boss" was pretty cold and stand offish. The cashier was nice enough though.
In the future, I hope they offer a discount to day-old pastries or they raise their...
