The restaurant offers plenty to look at, which can be either distracting or enjoyable while waiting for your food. We waited about seven minutes before being seated, which was not an issue. However, after being seated, it took 15 to 20 minutes before our server approached us for drink orders. After placing our order and receiving our drinks, we waited nearly 50 minutes in total, trying to be lenient, before realizing that tables seated after us were receiving significantly more attention and had already been served their food. Concerned, we flagged down a different server to check on our order, only to find out that our original server had never entered it. While frustrated, we were extremely hungry and agreed to wait if the food would be expedited, which it was once the order was actually placed. In total, we waited an hour before our food began arriving. As for the food itself, the miso soup was delicious, the agedashi tofu was decent, the crispy fried rice was outstanding, and the vegetarian sushi roll was exactly as expected. The food quality alone would be a reason to return, but the service left much to be desired. Once the new server stepped in, everything was handled promptly, but it was disappointing that we had to go out of our way to get someone’s attention. We were passed by multiple times, yet no one checked in or noticed that we had nothing on our table. We were told our server was new, which is understandable, but it doesn’t fully excuse the lack of oversight from the rest of the staff and our server. Additionally, there was no offer of compensation or even a small discount to acknowledge the inconvenience, which would have gone a long way in improving the experience. Overall, while the food was impressive, the service made the experience frustrating. I’m unsure if I would return based on this...
Read moreDamn I was so excited to try this place.. authentic Korean dishes that people don’t normally know about and I couldn’t wait to try! We showed up on a Friday night around 7 and they seated us right away, wasn’t too packed and there wasn’t a wait. I love that there is a call button at the table, every time we rung it they appeared right away. The inside was decorated like a Korean style bar with k-pop playing which really made the restaurant feel authentic.
So we ordered the Pink Panda roll, the Takowasa, the Bossam (small), the Gabli and a watermelon Soju. The Pink Panda roll was delicious. The shrimp tempura was so good I could tell when I took a bite of it that it was perfectly fried. It had great flavors and the fish was so fresh! 10/10! The Takowasa (raw octopus) was way too salty, it had great flavor but the salt made it hard to keep eating… (7/10) The Bossam was served with lettuce, perilla leaves, jalapeños and garlic with a side of ssamjang. The ssamjang had great flavor, the perilla leaves and lettuce were fresh, but the Bossam.. it wasn’t good.. I don’t think it was boiled properly and/or when they made it they needed to add more daikon radish because it had that dirty taste pork had when it isn’t cooked properly. It was not good.. (4/10). And the Gabli lacked flavor.. it wasn’t marinated as long as it could have been.. and for the amount they gave us, we paid $26 and it just wasn’t worth it, completely disappointing.. (3/10). The watermelon soju was delightful though. (10/10)
Overall I think there needs to be an emphasis on quality control, not rushing marinates and...
Read moreI'm a long time FORMER!! customer of this restaurant. Under another name, I have 5,000 followers on Google and Yelp, and I am a respected reviewer, guide and former restaurant owner myself.
NOW HEAR THIS.! I WILL NEVER COME BACK TO THIS RESTAURANT AGAIN.
I came in after lunch time when the restaurant was nearly empty and asked the English impaired Korean waitress for five pieces of sushi. They brought me 13 pieces of sushi including California roll that I did not order which would cost me.... $20.
When I objected and complained, The very severe- looking unfriendly manager copped an attitude, was rude and tried to argue with me. Excuse me, who do you think you are? Now I understand why the restaurant is empty much of the time, I think they interpret customer service to be exchanging machine gun fire with the North Koreans. This is certainly not the American way.
And when I got up to leave because of their poor attitude and terrible service she gave me the nastiest look, without even an apology or a hint of warmth, that I've gotten since the time I told a communist former North Korean friend that I was voting for Trump. There are several dozen wonderful restaurants in downtown San Diego. This is not one of them. Adios amigo. I...
