Ever since Q Cafe closed down some months ago (is it years now?), I was sad that there was no other breakfast place to get tater tots in the city. But then an article on Thrillist told me about some affordable and tasty breakfast places in the SF/bay area and this place was one of them. Little did I know that they had the blessed breakfast tots!
I've never been to this area, but my party of three and I got there around 8am on a Saturday. Weirdly, it was IMPOSSIBLE to find parking on the street. And this is at 8am. If you can, do try to take a public transportation or ride sharing.
We were seated right away and ordered our goodies. Sadly, we discovered the giant chalk board of specials after we ordered...but next time I will get those pumpkin pancakes.
Food arrived quickly and gloriously (see: enormous plate of straight up tater tots smothered in chiles and cheese and bacon). There may be some repercussions for eating a giant plate of better-than-fries in the morning, but oh, it was so good. Also, it was pretty affordable for the amount of food we got. It isn't the hipster super-expensive stuff you find in the heart of downtown - more of a greasy spoon which very excellent menu items.
We left around 9, and there was a sizable line out the door. It's a small place, so be prepared for a wait of you have a...
Read morewould not recommend this place. when we first entered the staff seemed friendly enough and we were seated pretty quickly, so it seemed like it would've been a good experience, but the real problem began after they took our orders. the staff brought out my wife's order first and then we waited for my order to come out as well so we could eat together. we ended up waiting 10 minutes before the staff asked if anything was wrong, then I told them we were still waiting for my order. I saw them rush to the back cause it seemed like they forgot my order. 5 minutes later it finally came out, but by this time my wife's meal was already cold. I got the trio Benedict and it was not good. the loco Moco and chicken Benedicts both tasted like they had no seasoning whatsoever. only the corned beef had flavor. then after we finished our meal and they gave us the check, it took them another 10 minutes before they picked up our check for us to pay. mind you there was only 2 other people in the restaurant at the time, so it was not busy at all. they took so long for everything and they weren't even busy. if they were busy I would've been more understanding as to why they took a long time, but there were only like 4 customers total in there. in short, terrible customer service and just ok food. would...
Read moreFood was good, but not killer. I got a veggie omelette that was tasty, but seemed to be a little light handed on the avocado. "Salad side" was commercial mixed greens with unripe tomato chunks. Mimosas and fresh squeezed OJ were delicious!
"$$" pricing is pretty on-point. A full omelette breakfast is at least $12, the OJ is $5, and my mimosa was $7.
Waitresses were okay (had two different ones during one sitting). The one who took my order forgot one of my sides, and the other asked "who's driving" after I had two small (5oz?) mimosas (5'8" + average build + omelette breakfast + ~1hr going on my side). I'm ABC certified and know I wasn't exhibiting any problem signs, nor did I feel intoxicated whatsoever. Would've accepted it as banter if she hadn't already sarcastically asked "want another?" right before. It felt a little strange... and for what it's worth - no, I wasn't driving.
The place is a small setting with limited seating and parking. Minimal décor. Overall I thought it was cute.
It's not a place I'd pick to go back to on my own but I wouldn't bail if a date really...
