I had seen so many good things about this place on social media, that I couldn’t wait to get back SF to give it a try. Unfortunately, it fell quite short. We had the special breakfast sandwich, the cinnamon roll, the beignets (which are only available on Sunday) and a latte.
The Special breakfast sandwich was the best of anything we received. All of the bakery items including the biscuit on the sandwich felt heavy and dry. They lacked a light and fluffy aspect. The biscuit was buttery and flakey but dense and tended to be dry on the bites with no aioli.
I had heard the most about the cinnamon roll and could not wait to try it. Be aware, it comes cold. If you want it gooey melting with cinnamon, you need to ask them to warm it up. It is full of cinnamon and sugar but again, the dough felt dry.
The beignets were not the airy, light texture you expect and would not order them again.
The biggest disappointment was the latte. When I first received it, it was cold. And I mean…..cold!! It was in a warm take away cup (not plastic for iced) so there wasn’t a mistake with the order. It was a weak, watered down shot of espresso with cold milk on top. I took it back and the person working the register questioned me so I asked him to take it to the sink and put his finger in it. He obliged and when he felt how cold it was, he looked at the barista and confirmed it was in fact cold. The barista made me another one. While it was slightly warmer in temperature it tasted terrible. Extremely watered down. It tasted like water with a teaspoon of espresso and barely warm milk. I threw it out.
Maybe I visited on an off day but since we went out of our way while visiting SF to try this place, it was a...
Read moreAs a San Francisco Native who hails from the Richmond District I decree this Devil's Teeth to be a great asset to San Francisco. The coffee is great here, only coffee I can think of that I actually feel satisfies me in the space that only Blue Bottle or Stumptown reaches. The Sunset Blend is the one I have had extensively. I want to try more to all of the coffees eventually. Maybe it is is my sentimentality for San Francisco, the real San Francisco, which this represents and is in the real San Francisco but objectively it is actually great coffee. The baked goods were insane too. That is a big deal, as I am sure the owners of Devil's Teeth know, this side of town is very Bakery heavy so you do have to have the goods to shine out here.
Thank you for existing, Devil's Teeth. Also, thank you to you for having a good staff here. I have been to the other location closer to Ocean Beach and was not so impressed with the decorum of the staff there. Suffice it to say, they were aloof and rude and didn't even brew this great coffee well. They sure did not, not the way this location did. I would say this location mended the disappointment and underwhelming feelings I had about the other location. SO do I want to shine a light on the staff here? Yes I do. And for some reason there was better baked goods at this one. Like day and night. Albeit, a year and half apart each visit so suffice it so say Devil's Teeth is likely constantly...
Read moreLiterally the best gem in San Francisco. It’s bittersweet that I had to leave this review because I know how popular this place is already, but now it’s gonna be even more popular! This local, neighborhood gem is located in the Sunset area. Only 5 blocks from Ocean Beach! Their bakery is simple and ingredients rich with butter and even more love! When you’re here you have to get the breakfast sando. Hammered between 2 flakey biscuits that’s more flakey than the people in SF. The ingredients are simple: egg, cheese, and bacon. On Sunday: get the beignets, you wont regret it. They’re also famous for their shark cookies. Yes you heard that right... shark. Shaped. Cookies! The cookies are so buttery you’ll probably need to run a 5k to sweat it all out. All in all you can never go wrong with a quick visit here. PRO TIP: go in groups so save spots in line. One can be parking the car the...
