My friend (a bit scruffy looking) and I were here for dinner the other day at 5pm. We were the first customers and were seated outdoors, and tried to get some service to order food. The waiter was rude and kept asking us if we had a reservation. What reservation would be needed to dine in the cold and when there are NO other customers? As we were contemplating if we should dine at a place with rude customer service, the waiter (Latino male) demanded that we need to make a reservation. There was a lot of hatred in his voice and mannerism. I’ve dined here and ordered take outs several times since I live in this neighborhood - The food is just ok, but it’s the only Latin/Mexican restaurant in Dogpatch so it’s good enough in a pinch when I don’t wanna cook. I recognized that the rudeness may have been because my friend didn’t dress that well, and the waiter didn’t want us to dine there. I live in this neighborhood and I condone any establishments that treats paying customers rudely, especially if it comes from a place of...
Read moreMust have been a fairly new establishment because I have never seen or noticed it in the Dogpatch area. I was yelping for dinner places to go to and this popped up. I'm glad I chose this place, because all the dishes I tried here are awesome. They have plenty of bottled beer and wine options. As for food, the pulled pork was really teally really satisfying. It came with a few sides of crispy plantains that were very crunchy and delicious. The next dish was the suckling pig which was also very delicious, but personally I like the pulled pork i.e. Cubano dish, the most. Very yummy. I also tried the churros for dessert and loved it. I went here for dinner right as they opened at 17:30, so there was no wait and the waiters were all very nice and attentive. I would come back and would love to try their other dishes some time in the near future! :) P.S. this review is for their dinner serving. I have never tried their brunch...
Read moreI'm not sure why this place has such high reviews, since my experience (and especially the service) was very mediocre.
We didn't really know what the concept was for this place (order smaller dishes and share, or order something bigger per person?) so we specifically asked one of the waiters about that, and the only thing he could tell us was that "everything on the menu is the best". Five minutes later we asked again for the best dishes on the menu, but this time another waiter, and again the response we received was "everything on the menu tastes good".
I mean... are you kidding me? Can't even the staff who works there help us out with what to order?
In the end we played it safe by ordering the half chicken and the taco's, and however they tasted fine, it was by no means something special. Not a place I would go again...
