It painse to leave negative feedback as this should have been a great place. The Ramp is tucked back against the water and is very easy to miss if you don't know about it. We come to ucsf weekly and heard about it from one of our nurses. There's not many options for food around the hospital so we have it a go. It a very laid-back, casual spot with a large outdoor seating area. We arrived and a big sign said to seat yourself. We found a table in the shade, and just as we were sitting down, the host greeted us. He was very nice and cheerful. Our waiter came after about five minutes to take our order. We were really ordering food for our son to make sure he ate between his treatments, so it was an easy order: kids sliders with fries, a bowl of clam chowder, a soda, milk, and one specialty cocktail. We received our drinks after a ten minute wait and my wife loved her drink (I can't remember then name of it). We then proceeded to look at the water and views of the boat club. After wait for another 30 minutes doe our food we noticed tables that had arrived after us, with much larger orders of appetizers, receiving their food. It was slightly annoying, but these things happen. After 50 minutes had passed since ordering our food we started seeing the same tables, some with groups of 5-6 people compared to our three, receiving their main course after their appetizers. These were the same tables that had been seated 10-20 minutes after us. I thought maybe they were short staffed, but upon looking they had five waiters working. Doing some quick math, each waiter had an average of 4.5 tables. During our wait we never saw our waiter and it seemed he was avoiding us as he would check in with all the tables around us. We finally waived down a different waiter to ask if there was an issue with our order. He immediately went back to check. Just after he went into the kitchen, our waiter came out and said the kitchen was very backed up. From my experience in the industry, this probably meant he didn't send the order back, or messed up the ticket and was blaming the kitchen for the issue. Especially since less than two minutes later the second waiter appeared with our food. The clam chowder was above average in quality and I was pleasantly surprised. Slightly over peppered, but great flavor. A little light on the clams, but no one is perfect. My son's sliders looked like a rush job. It comes with all the fixings so we had to take some of the veggies off for him. Upon looking at the burger, it appeared they had sloppily ripped up a regular sized Patty to make his two sliders. They were very over cooked for my liking, but it worked out as we needed it well done for him. The fries were very good with the typical garlic parsley coating you become used to in the city. These were not heavily coated, but had just enough garlic to let you know it was there. We ended up with a total food wait time of 55 minutes and had to give the second waiter our credit card as he brought the food as we were on the verge of being late to our next hospital appointment. Overallve been a very good meal and a convenient locations that we would love to frequent. Unfortunately our service experience was so terrible we won't be going back any time soon. None of the associates wear badges so I can't tell you who was good and who was bad. I really want to like this place as it's a perfect no frills, low key spot to frequent during our many trips to uscf. There's just no way I can recommend it after the service we received. If you're okay with the chance of a really terrible sevice experience, try it out. All the food we saw coming out looked spot on, and ours was...
Read moreFood is pretty good but the waiters are so slow you’d think they don’t have legs, even when there’s abt 3 tables and 2 waiters it will take you around 30 mins to be asked for food and probably about 20 for drinks.
Update: I’m going to bring it down to one star, been a total of 3 or 4 times I really shouldn’t have come back and should have learned from my mistakes.
Music is always good but bands occasionally are not allowed to take donations etc. To be honest the service is TERRIBLE I’ve personally had over 3 bad experiences, waiters love not doing anything when your waiting for your food they are playing with each other’s hair behind the bar or asking the shift lead what food goes to which table since they forgot. You’ll see them walk your food back and forth till it comes to you. We ordered food for 3 and fries came out then a burger by the time I had finished my burger and left, after asking 4 times about Guacamole and Chips we had ordered, the waiter finally checked on it instead of standing in the back on their phone. She then at the end of our meal came over and asked if we still wanted it and said something along the lines of “I’m probably not getting tipped by you” in a fairly demanding manner. I noticed 2-3 other tables also had issues with her and were missing food etc.
The Waiters need to realise that they are the gateway to people and the food the kitchen prepares.
This restaurant needs to go onto Kitchen Nightmares. It CANNOT be a good place to go until management steps up and makes changes or finds some new waiters to staff. If you want to feel cared for go somewhere else, takes AT MINIMUM 10 mins to even be welcomed or asked abt drinks. There’s always some issue you’ll be shocked about.
If you want your Guacamole and Chips to come out at the same time as your check or not at all, the ramp is the place for you.
I sincerely hope the restaurants owner takes some control, and begins to care more about their business, it would be full 24/7 as the location is great, the environment is good, the outdoor seating is a bit uncomfortable but fairly regular being plastic chairs, the waiters are atrocious, the food is fairly alright but a bit pricey for what you get, for example the Ramp Burger. I’ve had a lot better...
Read moreThe Ramp has really gone downhill since it was taken over by new owners/management. It used to be a fun place with live salsa music on Saturdays that was always packed. It had a family and community feel. You could come for brunch, bring your kids, and stay for dancing. No longer. Kids are no longer allowed inside where the band is playing, and if you come to eat, they kick you out before the band starts playing. It also has the WORST service I have ever experienced in my life. The first time we came, we ordered chicken wings and it took three hours to receive them. We didn’t get them until we were ready to leave. The bartenders do not know how to make basic drinks, like vodka and 7-Up and Moscow mules. We waited 20 minutes for the outside bartender to make three drinks. The people next to us asked for tequila reposado, and the bartenders had no idea what she was talking about and couldn’t find any, even though we could all see it clearly on the shelf. The bartender outside was extremely confused. At first, I thought he was just very stoned, but I think bartending is simply not his skill set. He kept repeatedly asking me what my order was. He couldn’t locate the vodka, which was on the counter right in front of his face. He charged us for drinks that were completely different from the drinks we ordered. Food took 40 to 60 minutes to receive and was cold when we got it, even though there was no line. There is no longer any tableservice. They gave us our food and in a to-go bag, even though we were sitting at a table. There are very few people coming anymore. We have been coming here for 25 years, and will...
