Much more oily than other Chinese breakfast spots. A lot of goodies sellout early (like steam dumplings or Pot stickers at 1030am on a Tuesday).
Ordered: Egg Covered Tortilla $3.35 - Not great. Its suppose to be soft. Fried Radish Cake $3.60 - Oily but okay. Fried Onion Cake $3.30 - This is not onion pancake. It was hard almost to a hard crunch in some areas (over cooked?/burnt?). Its not filled with green onions. Its super oily. I don't think this is even Chinese cuisine. Radish Pastry (30) $4.95 - Its okay. Not stuffed with goodies, just with parts. Cold, hot, sweet or unsweetened soy milk is $2 each. Put into foam to-go cups. Had same experience as "Pete L.". Food was lukewarm.
They take credit card. Small parking lot, but possible to find parking in the morning.
Apparently its popular earlier than 10:30am if everything sells out. Self-seating. Leave items and food at the table when you leave. Tip jar is at the cashier area. Recommend coming with Chinese speaking company or just point at the pictures of things or words on the menu.
Recommend going to old breakfast places like...
Read moreI've gone here so many times, and finally I'm writing a review. I like how this place welcomes all walks of life. From my people watching I noticed guests wearing plainer clothes to guests holding Fendi bags. We are all united by the love for Taiwanese breakfast and fresh soy milk. Walking in, you will wee a freezer with dumplings and more to purchase, a deli fridge with pre-packaged cold noodle and other cold dishes and freshly baked flaky buns filled with different beans or meat. Against the far wall are disposable utensils and napkins next to a rack of fresh zong zhi or bread rolls.
As a vegetarian, there are definitely options that aren't listed on the menu. Basically you can substitute anything with pork song with vegetarian "pork" song (fried bits with sesame and seaweed). That includes savory items like the savory soy milk (great with a dash of chili oil), rice rolls.
My go to is the rice roll which is hot and delicious with a bowl of savory soy milk. The prices have steadily climbed throughout the years but are still...
Read moreCame here for Taiwanese breakfast today. It's been a while since I've been here but the food was still really good. It's kind of pricey (when you unfairly compare it to prices when you're in Asia) for what it is but there aren't too many other places in the area that serves food like this. I'm surprised the overall rating is lower than I expected. It's not going to be super clean here so I could see where that would sway some folks for a lower score.
Their fried turnip cake is hands down one of the best turnip cakes EVER. I like how it's completely fried and it's also drenched in sauce. It's amazing. The soy milk is a staple that you have to get when visiting here, you can either get it hot/cold or sweetened/unsweetened. The gua bao is also another dish that is under rated and also very good. The rice roll is another dish where the different variations and options is where you have flexibility in choosing what you want. There's dried pork, pickled vegetables, and then however you want your egg prepared in...
