Antipasto's By De Rose — Restaurant in San Jose

First off, I've been in San Jose since 1963 and I'd never heard of Antipasto's. My hubby heard about this place from a co-worker who ate there for the very first time too and she raved about the Rib-eye steak she had. We made an "attempt" to have lunch here Friday at 12:00...yeah I know, ridiculous mistake, too say that they were busy was a HUGE understatement. no parking, no sitting and a long azz line to boot. We decided to try again around 2:00pm Tues. The parking lot is small BUT one spot was open when we arrived, happy campers we were. Let me say that I really had no idea what I was going to order, however when we walked in, the intoxicating smell of "ITALIAN GRAVY" hit me like a ton of bricks and all I knew was I wanted a loaf of bread and that gravy and I would be set, I ended up with a bowl of penne with meat sauce(the gravy), a salad and say yes to the question, "would you like tomatoes and bacon on our salad?" My husband of course wanted the rib-eye and for the first timers that read this, order your steak FIRST at the deli side to pick out your steak, they charge you the per pound price and $5.00 to cook it. Then you move to the big ORDER HERE sign to add to your lunch or dinner and you pay there. It is time consuming so if you only have 30min for lunch you may be late getting back BUT....our lunch was FANTASTIC, I want that gravy and the recipe...yeah good luck with that...lol The staff are friendly, helpful and down to earth people, I even got a tad more gravy after using the bread to sop up most of it. The steak was perfect, charred well in the outside and med. rare throughout, and it had a buttery smell, OMG it was delicious. Even the customers are friendly and made conversation with us as we all ate. Will we be back, oh hell yeah. We even bought some frozen raviolis and gravy to take home, 96 raviolis for $19.99...we got a double gravy so I'm not sure what the price was. Try Antipasto's.....you...

The McKee family's been coming here for years almost since they opened up. We absolutely love eating at Antipastos. The raviolis, the meats, the sandwiches, all the pasta dishes don't get any fresher or tastier than this family run operation. If you're looking for quality Italian comfort food at reasonable price and a family setting but no further. Just to set your expectations, sometimes line gets long as they get busy because they're in high demand, but if you're patient you're guaranteed an amazing meal, served and cooked by warm friendly family members that run this restaurant. You can almost always find a table to sit down and eat your favorite meal. I've had all the meats, all the pastas, my last visit I try to meatball sandwich which I hadn't had before and wow, what an amazing sandwich. I judge meatballs, not sure why but in recent years I go between original Joe's, Maggiano's and Antipastos.... Antipastos is number one with a Nice spicy meatball and good sauce. Original Joe's comes in number two with a little mellower meeker meatball but better sauce. Maggiano's meatball taste a little bit better but they've got so much MSG or something in there that it leaves an aftertaste that's not acceptable so it's last on a list even though it tastes as good or better. Grab your friends, your family your neighbors and come down have an amazing Italian meal that antipasto's or I've actually catered quite a few lunches and dinners with their catering service and getting trays of sausage, meatballs, vegetables, different meats different pastas, salads and garlic bread. Wish I didn't have to drive across town to get here. I have been here a few times, and can say its worth it. When I first heard about this place from coworkers and saw the yelp reviews I was looking forward to try it out. But as I drove up and parked, I was starting to form the opinion that this place is probably one of those that are overhyped. I was wrong! The few times that I have been here, the little elderly woman that's at the cashier is the sweetest! I'm not a very talkative person, but she's super nice and very helpful. The guys that takes and prepares the orders are pretty much straight to the point. They take your order, prepare it, and pass it to the cashier. The food is good and the portions are huge! The meatball sandwich is a must, and we tried the raviolis for the first time today (my kids new favorite for this place). My kid and I ate only half of the sandwich and had plenty of raviolis leftover. It's definitely a lot of food for us. This place got my 5 stars not only because the food is good or that the little elderly woman's is friendly, but because they care about their customers. My kid was telling the woman that it was her first time trying the raviolis, and this taller guy in the back thought that she said this was her first time here... So he comes up to us and offers helps and suggestions. It's great how they talk to my kid and help her decide what she wants. If this place wasn't so far from me, I would definitely...
