I thought the food here was quite good.
We ordered:
Pad thai which we didn't even touch because the portions of everything else we ordered were so large (leftovers tonight!), so I can't comment on taste. This is to speak to the portion size of everything.
Drunken noodles (my friend said they needed more liquid to deserve the "drunken" label, but the were so delicious as is. That was my favorite dish of the night.
3, Tom Kha soup was really good, spicier than other restaurants but I liked that. Quite tasty.
The green curry actually tasted "green," meaning it was distinctively different than red and yellow (it seems that elsewhere red, yellow and green curry sauces are all so similar except in color). This was quite good. I can't say it was the best I've had, but it was very good.
I didn't have room to tast the yellow curry, but my friend who is picky about her Thai food said it was delicious.
The fried bananas and ice cream were to die for.
Portions were very large. We were a table of 4. We only ate half of each one and none of the pad thai. Some complain about price in the reviews here. Well, the portions make up for that. We have an entire meal left over for tonight. Service was quick and no complaints there. Atmosphere is your typical...

Everyone at the table finished eating and after struggling to find anyone to grab the check I told them I didn’t get my food. I just got a sorry and took my food to go. I started ordering takeout only and even then some egg dishes had egg shell in them. Other dishes have been bland and flavorless where I need to add my own spices at home. I’m done with Khaosan. It was great during the first years and fell off in quality around 2021.
(Original Review 2020) My favorite, go to, usual spot in San Jose for Thai food. I’ve been coming here since they first opened and I’ve seen this restaurant grow over the years. During covid they have been the most accommodating. There is a beautiful outdoor patio that’s covered, has heating lamps, cute lights, plants, and nice furniture. Great outdoor ambience. Indoors is nice too. They really care about their customers here and listen to feedback. Food is delicious too, don’t be afraid to ask questions if you don’t know something...

We are Thai food afficionados. There is a restaurant that we would rank above Khaosan in overall taste and quality, but Khaosan's Basil (Ka Praw) dish is easily the best among the dozens and dozens of places we visit and frequent. Only a now-closed Thai restaurant matched Khaosan's Ka Praw dish in taste. Khaosan makes their Ka Praw dish with ground chicken (assuming you order the chicken) and that really helps the flavor of the entire dish stand out.
We also are big fans of their Red Curry (usually beef).
If Khaosan has a flaw, it's that their dishes often have a lot of bell pepper (which causes unpleasant complications for one of us). But they are very willing to adjust or remove such ingredients upon request. Another flaw is that their Thai iced tea is not available via DoorDash or GrubHub. It's unfortunate, because it's quite good. Not overly sweet.
We haven't yet tried many of their dishes because the ones we HAVE tried have been...
