I realize this location has only been open for approximately two months, and, in the months to follow, it could remain the same, get better, or go downhill. That being said, and based only on how things are as of right now, I'm quite happy. My wife and I decided to go out for brunch on the 4th of July, and, as one might expect, there weren't a lot of places open. Thankfully, the Camden location was open (albeit, only until 2:30pm).
Walking in, we were pleasantly surprised by the simple, yet eloquent, decor, as well as the openness of the dining room...lots of space between tables, which those with certain needs (wheelchairs, walkers, etc) will greatly appreciate. While some restaurants clutter the place with an excessive number of tables & chairs, Benedict's keeps plenty of walking space, while, at the same time, providing plenty of seating.
As for the food, we...and our bellies...couldn't have been happier. While I decided to have breakfast, my wife went with lunch. Starting with the orange juice, when they say "fresh squeezed" they seriously mean it. Speaking of which, for those who might be interested, they also have fresh squeezed grapefruit juice, something I can't recall seeing served anyplace else. My wife started with the split pea soup, and, to simply say it was "good" would be a HUGE understatement...this wasn't "just" split pea soup with ham in it - there were also carrots, spinach, zucchini & celery. In otherwords, it was more like a pea-based veggie soup...and DE-LI-CIOUS.
Moving onto our entrees, I had the Bronx Benedict, while my wife had the house-made veggie patty sandwich. Trying to describe the veggie patty, I can't, other than to say it was incredibly good (she only allowed me one bite, as she intended on eating the entire sandwich). The benedict was equally delicious...the eggs were poached to perfection, the hollandaise sauce was incredible, and the corned beef hash...the corned beef hash...oh, the corned beef hash...it was, without a doubt, one of the best I've ever had.
Service, while not the best, was good. Our server was "friendly", punctual, observant, and accurate. My only "complaint" was that she could have had a bit more "personality". To end this review, I will say that we WILL return. My wife wants to try a particular breakfast item, and there's something on the lunch/dinner side of the menu I'm wanting...oh, yea, and I've got to try that bread pudding. Go give Benedict's Camden location a try...your stomach, as well as your taste buds, will NOT be...
Read moreFirst of all, I am the type of person, when it comes to food, I have no filter and I’ll tell it like it is. Two weeks ago, I saw a video from TikTok about this restaurant so we decided to go there for bunch. It was our first time and we were at the restaurant at 12:30 pm. We ordered mole chilaquiles, omelets, and churros French toast for dessert. The food was delicious!! We were impressed with the service and the food! I tell my co-workers, friends, and family to check out the restaurant when it is good. Yesterday, we decided to go to the restaurant again. This time, we were at the restaurant at 2:45 pm. The food that we ordered was the same as last time. This time, the food was ok. I don't know if it is because they were about to close in 45 minutes. The churros French toast was the worst, it was so dry and tasteless! not like the first time, moist. I told my husband not to eat the toast and send it back to the kitchen, but he told me not to be rude. He asked for the syrup, so it wouldn't be too dry. I think that the French toast was made in the morning, and we were getting the leftovers, and not made fresh, and that is why it was so dry! The waiter picked up the dishes and asked how are everything and the food. I told him my honest opinion while my husband was in the restroom, and the waiter told me that he would let the cooks know. When the waiter came back, my husband was with me. He told my husband that he credited us partially $5 for the toast because of my complaints. He also said that, if we didn't like the toast, how come we finished it? The waiter basically told my husband that I was lying. My husband doesn't like conflict, so he stops me by looking at me so I would not respond to his common. The only thing I told the waiter was that we don't need partial credit for the toast, that was not my intention. My intention was to let them know, so they could do a better job! Also, they should be able to take criticism from customers and make it better. We were willing to give it another try, but after this encounter, we would never come back!! I would let my friends and family know not...
Read moreIt was dark, gloomy and dull start to the Sunday! And we needed something to pick us up for the remainder of the weekend. What better than a good hearty breakfast in a cosy breakfast joint! And we found just the right spot in Benedicts Cafe and Bar.
Bit of a drive from home, but with almost non-existent morning traffic and coasting the inner roads of San Jose through the windy and drizzling weather we reached the place quickly and found the place to ourselves, almost.
The establishment is huge, clean and dining area is divided into the bar area and main for big groups and side seating near the windows. This time we chose the window seating in a booth - notice how slyly I have hinted we will be coming back for more!!
The staff was very friendly and yet not overly attentive leaving us to enjoy the slow morning with our mugs of coffee as waited for our breakfast to arrive.
I went in for their Classic Benedict with extra crispy hash browns, along with a side of sausage links! They did not disappoint !! The poached eggs were on point, just perfectly runny, the hollandaise sauce light fluffy and creamy with perfect flavor and sliced ham was toasted just right. The extra crispy hash browns were exactly that - crispy on the outside , correctly cooked inside, and without a hint of oil anywhere!! And the sausages were fried so well that it tasted sinfully good!
A simple authentic breakfast made marvelously well - Rating - a solid 5/5
The better half chose the California Benedict with country potatoes. She could not stop gushing over the flavor profile that was introduced with the thick slices of Tomatoes and Avocado added which further enhanced while complementing the creamy Hollandaise's taste. And the Country Potatoes were fried to perfection with tomatoes, caramelized onions, bell peppers and spiced just perfectly!! Rating - a solid 5/5
We loved everything about this place, ample parking, cosy and comfy atmosphere, great service and best of all thE quality of the food served. Prices were a little above average, but the value provided for that price - marvelous !
