Panaderia el Angel — Restaurant in San Jose

Pan dulce, literally meaning "sweet bread" is the general name for a variety of pastries. Pan dulce was introduced by Spanish colonists. In San Jose there are many Mexican bakeries or 'panaderias'.

El Angel Panaderia is new (Jan '22) but has the taste of a well experienced establishment.

Located in San Jose, off the intersection of Story Rd and McLaughlin in the heart of Little Saigon.

Plenty of free parking. El Angel opens at 4am.

The pan dulce (sweet bread) at El Angel to describe in one word...Amazing. Traditional style sweet bread made with authentic recipes from Mexico City.

The perfect place for a sweet tooth. The sweet breads are fresh tasting, savory and delicious.

The top seller is the concha. Concha is a traditional sweet bread with a crunchy and sweet covering. It's often flavored with chocolate or vanilla. The interior is soft, light and airey. Definitely pairs well with milk or hot chocolate...dip and dunk!

One of my favorites are the puerquitos "little pig" (shape). Lightly sweetned with sugar cane and the hint of the ginger spice. There's a thin line between dry and too dry. The puerquitos here are light, slightly dry and delicious with cold milk for a late night treat.

Polvorones Rosas galletas (Pink Mexican Sugar Cookies) are a popular choice. You'll find this selection at most panaderias. Often a kid favorite.

I would be cautious with the food depending what time you go in. I went in with a co worker last year to get some bread for ourselves and co workers. It was evening to night time and the lady was mopping the floors. It smelled strongly of bleach. My bread tasted off. I ate part of my concha, saved the rest for the next day. The remnants from the bleach was definitely on the bread the next day, I threw it away. I've only tried the place once, but didn't want to...

Came in at 6am for breakfast and I wasn’t disappointed. This has been right in front of my house all these years and I finally walked in for some bakery goods.
