Although the bun bo hue is disappointing here, there are plenty of stars in the menu. I recommend the following:
It is a rather small restaurant and is frequently busy on the evenings on the weekend. Aside from the fantastic food, the staff is exceptionally and...
Read moreMy son's friend's family owns this great Vietnamese restaurant. We have eaten at many Vietnamese restaurants and you think that they are all similar. Vit Dong Que is unique. They are known for their duck. I ordered the combo with duck (sliced), salad, and porridge. You are suppose to use the fish sauce mix on your salad. The sauce is delicious. I added some of my tasty duck in my porridge. A thicker, sweeter dipping sauce is for the duck. I wish the porridge was thicker and that there was soy sauce on the table to use a little in my porridge, but there isn't soy sauce on the tables. We ordered the chicken wings appetizer- now this is absolutely delicious covered with a sweet chili sauce. We also ate the banana leaf appetizer with shrimp, pork, and tapioca. This was good, but we really wanted the other banana leaf appetizer (they ran out). My hubby and son each ordered a duck and a chicken vermicelli soup which they enjoyed. The service is excellent. The only negative comment I have is that someone opened the back door and cigarette smoke came in. My family cannot stand cigarette smoke. This place is cash only. There is no ATM inside. You have to go next door...
Read moreOne of my favorite restaurants in San Jose. Service is always courteous and the food is really delicious. My absolute favorites are bánh bèo (I've had this in many other restaurants but this is the best version of it that I've had in the U.S.), miến măng vịt aka duck noodle soup with bamboo (fyi it's dried bamboo that's been rehydrated and cooked for a long time in the soup; really delicious; it tastes completely different from fresh/canned bamboo), and I recently discovered that their porridge is surprising flavorful too. Basically it's hard to go wrong with any item on the menu. For noodle soups and porridge, there's an option to have it with a salad, which also means you get more meat. However, the regular noodle soup and porridge already come with a smaller portions of salad even though it's not clear from the menu that they do. Also, for noodle soups you can choose rice noodles (bún) or glass noodles (miến). The rice noodles is what is originally used in this dish (bún măng vịt) I think. I like both versions. The glass noodles are great if you want a light meal because they're not...
