Ok, 2021 restart! Leaving behind some not too pleasant food experiences that the 2021 initially threw at us, we went with @Cherylynn's guidance and tried Sliders Burgers!
Thank you @Cherylynn for leading us to this gem of place right on W San Carlos street that we've travelled past so many times before but failed to notice this place.
Now that is how burgers are done!!!
And the exceptional customer service by the son of this father-n-son restaurant, shows how Bay Area still manages to keep the American dream alive - do things the right way, keep doing it and one can succeed in this country, pandemic or not!
So this is how how we ordered - we drove over , parked outside, placed the order by phone and the owner kindly came out and handed our order to us. Ever so pleasant and courteous on the phone, anticipating our need and suggesting options to suit our needs ( like packing all standard fixings on side to avoid burgers from losing their integral shape during takeout) , he was the epitome of customer service even during this COVID times and raises the bar of service for all other restaurants that we can expect!!
Now onto the actual order. In addition to regular beef burgers they do make and serve non-traditional meats. Food Adventure hungry folks like us can try Bison, Elk and Ostrich. We went in for Bison and Elk for this time (yes hinting that we are to return soon!) Along with that we ordered a side of French Fries and their 12 count Buffalo Wings in the incorrect belief these burgers may be small and not as filling .
We were so wrong!!! Each burger was perfectly portioned for a single person's consumption and though we ordered extra we had nothing left for second, just because they were all so good!!
Both the burgers were perfectly cooked medium rare and I was in ecstasy with each bite of them. My wife swooned over the bison but I guess Elk was a tad gamey for her taste. No sweat! I was there to assist in devouring it. Yes we shared half of each so we found ourselves having no calories to put to our waistline (courtesy Leslie Sbrocco of PBS)
The American cheese chosen with the Bison burger was perfect and the Jack cheese chosen with the Elk burger kept the gaminess off the meat to a minimum for me.
And those Buffalo wings - thickly breaded, perfectly fired with crisp exterior and soft succulent meat inside, we will be coming back for more.
And finally those French fried - finally not those string fries , fried and salted to perfection. A must with all their burgers!
Kudos to this father-son team for making Sliders Burgers a happening place ! We will be coming back for more ! And I have yet to try Ostrich!
Folks do support such great places. We need to all that we can to survive this...
Read moreI first visited about 7 years ago, when i first heard of a "Bison Burger". I had another burger today (May 30th 2020) and it was just as good as the first time i had it. I don't go as often as i want because i moved out of the area (an hour north) but when i visit family, and friends, I try to make it a point to visit this amazing humble burger joint. Burgers are moist and juicy while the topmost surface isn't too charred or burnt. The condiments are always fresh, and the shakes are just the right thickness without being too thick to drink with a straw. The mushrooms are great and you can tell they were clean before being cooked. The cheese is added at the perfect time so its not melted onto their grill but its still melted. The vibe of San Carlos doesn't match the vibe inside Sliders in my opinion. I think being well aged is the only thing Sliders and San Carlos have in common. The rest of the street is somewhat run down with cracked streets, outdated locations, and even a few homeless in the area. But Sliders Burgers screams humble 50s with a modern take on flavor. I spoke to the owner a while back and he's still the same perfect chef with the same perfect knack for customer service.
(If you're reading this, i love what you've done with the place over the years and can't wait for another burger. Hope everyone stays successful and much love to every one of...
Read moreA little disappointed by this place based on the reviews I was reading before coming here. Food is not bad, it was good but not great. We were a family of 5 and a 2 year old. 3 of us got bison burgers and 2 of us got the hawaiian with added teriyaki sauce and the small one got chicken tenders and we got 2 orders of chicken wing and a milkshake and 2 beers. I think our total was $155-$160, forgot exactly my dad paid so I think that is pretty pricey. All our burgers seemed a little more on the dry side and they lacked flavor, nothing to rave about. Bison didn't taste like much, which we had high hopes for because my wife and I loved these bison burgers that we would get often in Idaho and like the saying goes...comparison is the thief of joy so i was really disappointed, and the same for the beef nothing special taste wise. You put your own toppings on, like lettuce, pickles, onion, tomato, etc which I actually liked that. The chicken wings I would skip on. And same for milkshake which seemed like they mixed it with too much milk so tasted more like a milk smoothie with a hint of strawberry. I wouldn't drive out of my way to come eat here again but if I lived nearby, somebody drove me there, somebody paid for me and it was the only place open to eat at, I would...
