As a regular visitor to the vibrant Santana Row area, I was eager to explore this (relatively new) place. However, my recent experience at Urban Plates left much to be desired.

First and foremost, the ambiance was sorely lacking. In an area known for its upscale and inviting atmosphere, this restaurant failed to capture any semblance of charm or allure. The space felt stark and uninspired, devoid of the lively energy (even on a Saturday evening) that draws people to Santana Row in the first place.

While I understand that this restaurant aims to offer affordable and fresh dining options, it's clear that their penny-pinching approach is compromising the overall experience. With an average revenue per table barely scraping $100, it's evident that corners are being cut at the expense of vibe.

One particularly frustrating aspect was their self-ordering method, which severely limits patrons' ability to enhance their dining experience. Not only does this system detract from the personalized service one would expect in a dining establishment, but it also prevents customers from easily adding on additional items like drinks or dessert. It's a missed opportunity for both the restaurant and its guests.

In summary, while Santana Row may be known for its upscale offerings, Urban Plates falls short in every aspect. From the lackluster ambiance to the restrictive ordering process, this establishment fails to deliver on its promise of an enjoyable dining experience. My prediction is that they will go out of business in less than 18 months unless they fundamentally change the business model or the location. (I would totally go to this restaurant on a weekday if it was located elsewhere but I wouldn't go there on a Saturday in...

I recently had the pleasure of dining at Urban Plates and I must say, it was an absolutely delightful experience. The service provided by Monique was exceptional and truly made the whole meal even more enjoyable.

From the moment we walked in, Monique greeted us with a warm and welcoming smile. She was attentive throughout the entire meal, ensuring that we had everything we needed and that our dining experience was top-notch. Her knowledge of the menu and ability to make helpful suggestions only added to our overall satisfaction.

Not only was Monique incredibly helpful and attentive, but her kind demeanor and friendly personality truly made us feel at home. She took the time to engage in pleasant conversation, ensuring that we felt comfortable and well taken care of. It's evident that she genuinely cares about providing excellent service and making sure her customers have a wonderful time.

As for the food at Urban Plates, it was absolutely outstanding. The variety of options available catered to everyone's tastes and dietary preferences. The freshness and quality of the ingredients were evident in every bite, and the flavors were simply mouthwatering. Whether you're in the mood for a hearty meat dish or a refreshing and vibrant salad, Urban Plates has it all.

Overall, I can confidently say that the service provided by Monique at Urban Plates was the highlight of our dining experience. Her exceptional attention to detail, warm personality, and genuine care for customers truly sets her apart. I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for a delicious and satisfying meal with...

I had food delivered on New Years Eve. I ordered a salad and they did not send any dressing. When I called to complain, the only thing that was offered was for me to come to the restaurant and pick some up. I didn't expect anyone to come and bring me any, but I thought maybe they would offer me a gift card or maybe I could come in another day and either get another salad free or at least half off, since my order was delivered incomplete at 8pm on New Years Eve. I was told they couldn't do anything...besides me getting out and coming there that night to get the dressing. When I asked the name of the manager, the person on the phone said his name was Stephen, I think, and when I asked to speak to him, the person hung up the phone. I was in San Jose visiting staying in a hotel. So I ate some of the salad, without the dressing, and the food was pretty good....but I personally don't care how good the food is, if the service is bad. The service this night was bad and I won't be returning or recommending this restaurant to anyone. Do better with training employees on customer service.

Update to original review: After speaking with the GM Fidel, who was very professional and customer service oriented, I changed my review on their customer service. Not only was the food good, but they have management that not only car res about making money, but also their customers too. I as a consumer, I appreciate...

My family and I love urban plate. We've eaten at multiple locations and were excited to hear that a new location opened a lot closer to us. Some things are different about this location than others, being the size of the place and there are not really any large seating areas, tables all really go up to four people (but you can push tables together yk) and the cups for beverages are not self served, even water which is interesting. I prefer ordering at the front rather through the app just because it's faster but the app is there if you prefer it. The place is clean and has a very aesthetic look to it. I highly recommend joining the plate pass membership as well. You basically just have to eat here like once a month to get your membership's worth and you save a decent amount of money on your meals. The food is good, I love all their sides, specifically the carrots, brussel sprouts, and broccolini. The menu may seem overwhelming as it is very large, but your meal is customizable and there is something for everyone. This time I got a chicken sandwich and the tomato soup. I dunked my sandwich in my soup and it truly made it ten times better would highly recommend. I would just get the bowl each time instead of.the cup, cup is TINY. but yes stan urban plate

Very disappointed. Came here when they first opened and we were impressed. Today, not so much. We came here on a Tuesday evening around 7:30 pm. There were about 4 people ahead of us and people waiting for their orders to pick up. We sat down and waited for 15-20 minutes for our food and when it was delivered everything was lukewarm or less than. I was tempted to ask for a refund and go elsewhere. The portabello sandwich was much smaller than it looks in the picture. The bread is pre-scored, not placed on the grill right then. The fries were barely warm and not crispy. The macaroni and cheese was dry and barely warm. The brussel sprouts were ok but weren't crispy or all that tasty. The only item that was remotely warm and tasty was the polenta. We brought home a piece of Hummingbird cake and it was moist but it lacked flavor and was somewhat doughey. The cream cheese frosting basically has no flavor or tang. Overall, we were disappointed, and the first timer said they wouldn't come back. The one redemption is the Stubborn soda. 😔

Urban Plates is a solid spot if you’re looking for something that feels a little upscale without the big price tag. You order at the counter, pay, then grab a seat and they bring the food out to you. Super easy. I went with the grass-fed steak plate, which comes with two sides and a piece of bread. The steak was actually more tender than I expected, which was a nice surprise. The chimichurri sauce had good flavor but was a little on the oily side. The bread tasted a bit burnt—not terrible, just kind of took away from the rest of the plate. For sides, I got the Caesar salad and broccolini. Both were really good—the salad was fresh and the broccolini was cooked perfectly. I also like that they offer sauces like California Pepper Plant, olive oil, and balsamic vinegar. Nice little touches like that go a long way. The place has a clean, modern vibe and the food comes out pretty fast. Overall, it’s a great go-to when you want something quick but still good quality.
