Bay Area Eats 🥡 Top 20 Recent Takeout Picks - Hits & Misses ‼️

When you go to a typical hot pot, you may expect a big plate of thinly sliced meat filling the surface of the plate. This place gives you a big plate of thinly sliced lettuce. Don't be fooled by the line and the wait. There are better options a little drive away. Value / Food - 1/5 $14.50 for a beef hot pot but a very stingy portion. 5 slices of meat, 2 cubes of tofu, 2 fish cake balls, 2 shrimps, and a lot of lettuce. There are plenty of hot pot places (tasty pot, HIT) that offers a lot more for $10-11. Menu items go from $13.50 - $17.50 depending on what sort of meat you want (pork, beef, shrimp). The soup was actually decent. Light flavor but it makes it a nice soup to drink at the end of your meal. Service - 1/5 I'm not sure if they were just understaffed or having a bad day. Unfriendly and rushed. Asked if I wanted rice or noodle. Said rice, they brought noodles. Never came again. Water empty. Environment / Cleanliness - 1/5 Unclean and small. Dust everywhere along their nice and pink sloppily done wall paint. If they don't dust off their walls in their small restaurant, imagine what their kitchen looks like. They stack their plates of lettuce when they bring it out. Forget about being sanitary. Can't recommend this place. At $15, you would have a more satisfied stomach and wallet elsewhere. Oh, cash only.

The newly upgraded space is bright, comfortable, and inviting. After hearing that the original owner has resumed management, I couldn't wait to give it another try. We arrived right at the first dinner seating at 6 PM on a particularly hot day-but thanks to the air-conditioning, it was perfectly comfortable. I ordered the 0.5 spicy mala beef broth, and my mom had the non-spicy creamy broth. The mala broth was just as it should be-rich, flavorful, and full of that signature taste I've missed so much. It truly brought back the original, delicious experience. We left completely stuffed and satisfied. I'm so happy this place is back to its old glory, and we'll definitely be returning for more hot pot soon!

If i could put 0 star i would. Honestly would never go here again. save your if i never go i’d never know. Save your 25 bucks and go across the street.

Service: It’s okay. 2/5 rating

Food: Terrible, I got the beef mala lvl 2 spicy. 1/5

Beef: frozen beef, not clean, all the impurities were boiling in my pot. All salt i’m tasting. I am scared for my toilet tonight. Could not contain eating it. 1/5

Beef tendon: Was slimy, All salt i was tasting again. strong soy sauce taste. Never again. 1/5

Beef tripe: texture was okay, taste the same like the tendon. All salt, all soy sauce.

Beef intestines: I was terrified to try it in case i get a stomach since other meat didn’t seem fresh AND I WAS RIGHT. Not clean and how ik is cuz it has a smell indicating it is not clean. All salt all soy sauce taste. Trust me Beef intestines are so good when made correctly. This was a straight disappointment. 0/5

Tofu: All salt, taste dirty. 1/5

Napa: taste fresh. 2/5

Soup: Due to all the impurities. Soup was NOT clean at all. ALL SALT. i got lvl 2 spicy no spicy came out of that bowl.

rice: rice just rice.

for 25 bucks a pot please save your money and stomach and go across the street. I promise you you’ll have a better dinner and happier stomach...

Seven of us came to dine at WUJI's Mala House. We didn’t realize they only accepted cash, Venmo, or PayPal until we asked for the check. When we were getting ready to pay, we noticed we were charged for eight hot pots instead of seven. We asked the server, and she mentioned that for parties of six or more, gratuity is automatically included. However, we also noticed that tips were itemized separately and had already been added at 9.375%.

This restaurant operates dishonestly. The server didn’t bother to mention that the check already included a tip until we specifically asked. It's important to note that gratuity or service charges are not supposed to be taxed, yet we were charged both tips and tax on top. We were willing to overlook the overly salty food and frozen beef, but the lack of transparency around the billing is unacceptable. There’s no discount for paying in cash either, despite it being a cash-preferred business. Charging tips plus tax without proper disclosure is misleading and unfair...
