My enduring lack of fandom for this establishment is a testament to its unwavering commitment to mediocrity. It's truly a marvel how a place can consistently underwhelm on every front – food quality, service, and ambiance – and still have customers. I can only assume the locals frequent it out of some deeply ingrained, masochistic habit, perhaps a nostalgic yearning for "the good old days" when the original owners apparently sprinkled magic fairy dust (and actual flavor) into their dishes.
Speaking of dishes, my "Oriental Chicken Salad" was an artistic masterpiece of disappointment. For a mere $17, I was presented with what I can only describe as a deconstructed dream: a generous mountain of shredded iceberg lettuce (clearly a connoisseur's choice), a couple of canned mandarin orange slices (for that authentic, straight-from-the-can zing), and a triumphant handful of peanuts, boldly substituted for the advertised cashews. Because who needs cashews when you can have… peanuts? It was truly a culinary rebellion against the very concept of value.
My daughter, ever the optimist, bravely ventured into the realm of waffles. Her plate arrived bearing four desolate waffle sections, flopped with all the enthusiasm of a damp dish rag. No fanfare, no fruit, no whipped cream – just a stark, minimalist statement of "here are some waffles. Now eat them." It was a profound lesson in the art of doing the absolute bare minimum.
Despite the restaurant being only half-filled, our service was a masterclass in controlled chaos – simultaneously inattentive and rushed.
One can only hope that no member of our family ever, under any circumstances, suggests a return visit. I'd rather eat my own underwear, and I'm fairly certain it would offer more flavor and...
Read moreMe and my wife were in downtown San Juan Capistrano and was looking for a good place to eat. I searched Google maps and saw this place which had a high rating and the pictures of the food looked delicious. We came in a little later after lunch, as we came in the greeter seemed overwhelmed, he handed us menus and told us to take which ever seat we wanted. Shortly after he took our drink orders and came back. We were then told half the staff was not there, so they were down to 1 waitress, so it took awhile for her to take our order, but understandable. I ordered some mozzarella sticks which came out with the meal. 10.00 for 6 small mozzarella sticks which the cheese inside wasn't even melted. I didn't want to make a fuss since the staff seemed overwhelmed I didn't want to stress anymore. The food was whatever I got a bacon burger, which didn't have any great taste to it , I wasn't impressed to where I said wow this meal is amazing, it had that generic coffee shop / diner food taste. Al in all for what I payed I wished I had went to red Robin instead for the same price and more food, but hey I wanted to try a new place, the staff did there best so props to them, but the food and first impression left a bad taste in my mouth, so definitely a place I would...
Read moreI have to give Molly's two stars. I've read previous reviews and a lot of them are very good so I took my group of 20 people in there on Saturday and another 20 on sunday. Service was very slow. I would expect that if we just dropped in on them but we actually let them know we were coming in advance so they should have been prepared. On the second day which was Sunday again they knew we were coming and they were supposed to have the patio all set up for us but when we arrived about 5 minutes early nothing was set up. It took them about another 15 minutes to get the tables lined up and get the area ready. Their service for the most part was second grade. One of their servers was really nice and polite. The other two were very patronizing and somewhat rude. I realize it's hard when you have a lot of customers to serve all at once but you have to remember those customers are what pays your salary so you can't be grumpy and snappy with them. We had several of our people make comments and their comments were met with sarcasm and rude remarks in return. I'll be taking groups to San Juan Capistrano from San Diego every weekend for a while but we probably won't go back to Molly's. First impressions...
