My wife and I arrived in San Juan super early and hadn't had breakfast yet. After walking around for a few hours, we ended up getting funneled through a narrow street section where restaurant staff hustles people to eat at their establishment. Well, they got us...
After being seated, the waiter made suggestions of what we should order and what we should not, which I found to be pretty cool. I think this happened because we are Puerto Rican and my wife was speaking in spanish, but I could be mistaken. Anyway, he recommended the mofongo, because every place in Puerto Rice claims to have "the best mofongo"... So my wife ordered the mofongo with bacalao and I had it with cerdo frito. My wife thought the bacalao was flavorful and gave the mofongo some life, but my pork was a little hard and the mofongo was dry and lacked flavor. They dont add chicharron, which in my opinion makes a good mofongo great.
We didn't wait too long for our food, but this is probably because we were the first table to order something to eat. My only complaints are that eating outside is a hassle and the food is way overpriced. If you dine outside on a nice day be prepared to have flies trying to get in your food every 20 seconds and birds swooping down to eat what ever falls from the tables.
I didnt have a horrendous experience, but I would never come back to eat here. I just dont like to eat outdoors, but the Mrs. does, soooo, happy wife happy life. There are plenty of other places to get a decent meal at a fair price, just...
Read moreMy husband and I were traveling for a 7 day stay in At. Juan, Puerto Rico, from Virginia. We were enjoying ourselves at El Balcon Del Moreno (during their Happy Hour) taking advantage of their nice sidewalk outdoor area drinks and they Amazing attendant, Felix, who served us. As it was getting late, we decided to have dinner there and ordered.
The food that we received at first sight, was not appealing at all to what the menu described. Then, when my husband and went to taste the food, it was HORRIBLE! I ordered the smashed plantains and Grouper filet with a side order of yellow rice. My husband ordered: Red beans & rice and red snapper. Let’s just say, he was appalled! It had no flavor, and the rice was hard. When we asked to speak to the manager, a women (didn’t get her name) came over and listen to our concerns, took the plates and went inside. She came back a few minutes later with the bill (including the food that we only took a bite of) and asked us to pay the $104 tab for.
Both of us being owners of a large catering company for over 10 years couldn’t believe the never of this manger, or whoever she was still trying to enforce the meals that she had already taken back to the kitchen. We refused to pay the bill. She later sent the adjusted bill (removing them dinners) from the menu, by Felix, our wonder wait attendant.
We should have read the other reviews prior to ordering dinner. That would have saved us a lot of headache. If you are seeking edible food, you won’t...
Read moreI wasted 107 dollars so you don’t have to . Hopefully this review helps someone and saves them money . This has to be the worst food I have ever eaten in Puerto Rico. The waiter was nice but this is really a tourist trap and if you want better food I suggest going to the place next to it (puerto criollo). Pina coladas were served in a cheap plastic cup and were watery with little to no alcohol. I got charged for 2 mofongo and my daughter nor I could even eat more than 2 bites . We complained to the waiter and stated everything tasted like fish . My youngest daughter’s chicken tasted like it was cooked in fish oil. The chicken mofongo tasted like chicken that was left in the fridge open with the taste of fish. The salad dressing bottles had filth on them. I told the waiter I would pay for it if I absolutely had to . I had hoped that they would take it off or at least send management out so that I could relay the dissapointment. My response from the waiter was “ if management was here I’d have him do something about it” . Please do your research and save yourself the time and money....
