Let me begin by saying that I have been to a fair share of boutique/luxury hotels across different countries (and continents) and my experience at 352 Guest House ranked, without a doubt, as my top 5. This is not a typical hotel where you just go to your room and unwind, but instead, it is a “guest house” where you interact with the building, the facilities, and the hosts to immerse yourself into the history of not only this guest house, but old San Juan.
For those of you seeking a shorter version of my review, I just have one key takeaway: Don’t hesitate. You will not be disappointed.
Here’s my more elaborate review: Your experience with the guest house begins prior to your arrival. My partner and I were arriving from Fajardo and Freddie, our host, messaged us to let us know that our room was ready before the regular check-in time (at 3PM). When we entered the facility through the bustling streets of old San Juan, we were immediately immersed into a relaxing atmosphere. The hotel entrance had two sets of doors to block out the noise from the street, and the hallway smelled like a relaxing spa. We were immediately greeted by our host Freddie (who offered us mimosa!), who was warm, courteous, and knowledgable. The building was built in the 1700s, home to Spanish majors who were stationed at the fortress. Much of the original tiles remain inside, decorated along the staircase. After a day of exploring the city, we enjoyed our private time on the rooftop in the hot tub and gazed at the city lights. When the night ended and the day began, we were greeted downstairs in the breakfast hall by Teresa, who’s not only incredibly nice but also got a great sense of humour. We were offered our choice of breakfast (I got the classic, and my partner tried the waffles) and beverage, and let me tell you, it was the best breakfast on our entire trip! Now, this might seem too perfect, so I will say there are little things that might bug some (but not us). Given the history of the place (and the city), the rooms are not big, so if you are looking for a 300-sq room, this would not be the place for you. The other thing to be aware of is that, the rooms are not as well ventilated and not as sound-proof (again, a feature of an old building). We didn’t hear other guests, but occasionally could hear a door close. We were out and about for most of the day, and both of us are pretty deep sleepers, so none of these things bugged us, but you might want to bring some earplugs with you in case you are a...
Read more352 Guest House was a highlight of our recent Puerto Rico trip and it exceeded our expectations! This intimate boutique hotel is nestled in the quaint and charming streets of Old San Juan on a blue cobble stone street across from a church. The historic building was just recently restored by its owners and they did a wonderful job maintaining the Spanish colonial charm while also adding modern conveniences.
Rooms: all rooms are on the 2nd floor (there is no elevator but they will take care of your luggage) and my husband and I stayed in a balcony room (they only have 2). We are glad we booked this option because it was nice to have the option of sitting outside (fun fact: on Sunday morning you can faintly hear the mass from the church across the street). Our room while simply decorated was gorgeous. It had high ceilings and tall wooden doors and shutters leading out onto the balcony - very original! The sheets were incredibly soft and our bathroom was modern and very clean. AC and WIFI worked very well. Room had a fridge and a coffee machine. Also you are allowed to bring in your own beverages and snacks (there is a market across the street) and the owners will gladly supply your with ice and cups or anything else you might need.
Rooftop: this guest house has a beautiful rooftop with lots of comfortable seating and a private hottub you can reserve without extra charge. It overlooks the city and has beautiful views onto the san cristobal fortress. The pictures on the website do not give the view justice. It is very special!
Staff: the staff is AMAZING! Everyone is so friendly and will go out of their way to get you anything to make your stay enjoyable. Such warm, nice and hardworking people! Also, you can text them at anytime via their dedicated concierge phone number if you need anything (directions, ice, cups, recommendations, etc.)
Breakfast: our room came with free breakfast which was delicious. The breakfast area is nicely decorated and overlooks Calle San Franscico.
Safety: the hotel has a card security system that restricts access to guests. Everything opens with your room card and we felt very safe and secure because of this.
Overall a wonderful and classy hotel in a prime location in Old San Juan! Highly recommend to couples that are looking for a romantic...
Read moreINCREDIBLE!!! I'm not even sure where to start, because everything was so amazing! The thing that stood out to me the most was how friendly and helpful everyone was. Our flight was delayed, so we didn't arrive at the hotel until about 3am. We were worried this might be a problem because it wasn't a typical big hotel, but nope! I called Freddy and he assured me that he would be up and ready to greet us at the door as soon as we arrived. I texted him as instructed, and sure enough, he was right there at the door waiting for us when we pulled up in the taxi. Even though it was 3am, he greeted us with a huge smile on his face, and couldn't have been any nicer or more excited to have us as guests.
The hotel/building itself is so cool. It still has some of the original building, but the renovations they made were very well done. It's very unique in that it still feels like an old, historic building, but it has just the right amount of contemporary updates and attributes to give it a new/clean look and feel, making your stay comfortable and nostalgic at the same time. To top it off, there is an awesome rooftop deck with a jacuzzi that overlooks the city...it's breathtaking. Everything about this place was really very well done, we were all unbelievably impressed!
The restaurant inside the hotel is so good that even if everything else about the hotel was the worst ever, it would STILL be worth it to stay there! Just for the food! I promise that you will absolutely love anything you eat there for dinner (one of my friends with us said his steak was the best he's ever had...he wouldn't stop talking about it)!
I know I mentioned it at the beginning, but I just want to stress how amazing and friendly Freddy, his wife, and the rest of the staff were. They are some of the nicest people we've ever met, and I would gladly support them in any business venture that they do, just because they are all great people who deserve great things. We're just happy we were able to stay here and had the privilege of meeting all of them.
Freddy and the rest of the amazing staff at the 352 Guest House - THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR MAKING OUR STAY SO WONDERFUL! It is truly an experience that we will never forget : )
Hugs & High Fives, Jaden,...
