Selva — Restaurant in San Juan

DO NOT GO HERE! We had a reservation for 8pm for two people, received drinks after 8:30 and still had not received any food by 9pm. We had to ask multiple times about our drinks and it wasn’t until asking the third waiter that we finally got the drinks. We only ordered four dishes, one of which being a salad and yet did not receive anything after waiting a hour. Service was absolutely horrendous with NO communication. It wasn’t until I got up to find someone to ask about our food that I was finally told that the kitchen was backed up. That is understandable, but we should have been informed of this without having to ask. Additionally, we noticed that despite the kitchen being very slow the restaurant continued to allow walk in parties along with reservations without communicating to any of the newly seated parties that their kitchen was swamped with orders already. We were one of multiple parties that ended up walking out due to extremely long wait times nearing 9 PM. There are so many AMAZING restaurant in San Juan- do not waste...

We went on a day that the "main chef" wasn't there and there was a big event going on. The food was mediocre to say the least. I placed orders based on their pictures on Instagram and multiple times we received something completely different. For example, the chayote salad literally looked nothing like the pictures (didn't even have the actual ingredients). We also ordered the lamb chops, with one of the chops being only bone. The service was great, as the waitors were very understanding. However, when we spoke to the manager, he said "when I saw the plates coming out, I knew the table was going to return it". This left a sour taste in our mouths because the manager's job is to ensure quality control. I had an incredible experience at La Selva on Calle Cerra. The vibes were fantastic—warm, lively, and full of energy. The service was absolutely world-class, and the food was nothing short of amazing.

A special shout-out to our server, Emil, who truly made the experience memorable. His attention to detail, friendliness, and professionalism elevated the entire experience. He’s the main reason I felt compelled to share this review.
