If you expect easy parking you will be disappointed. This is a hostel. It's designed for people who travel light and need a comfortable cheap place to crash. There's a nice kitchen with a coffee maker, fridge, microwave, sandwich maker, and airfryer. Get the best room in this building it's worth it! Here's our list of pros and cons. Pros: -Easy walks to cheap/ fine restaurants and bars. The yellow building restaurant a few blocks down is really Puerto Rican. Good food and beer! Great pork chops! -Central park and a marina is a short walk south -Art museums are also within walking distance. -Easy access to expressways. -Free bus stop at Walmart goes to old San Juan. It is also possible to ride to the airport. Use Google maps for bus routes. -Plaza del Mercado a great place for your first night. It's about a 20+ minute walk north -The Ribot Laverteria (laundromat) is 15+ minute walk north. $5 to wash and dry get quarters from local businesses. No soap available. Wendy's is the nearest bathroom. -Scooters are a great way to ride. Take one way streets for added safety. -While buildings look run down and there is a crazy amount of graffiti, it's safe. The crime rate of San Juan is lower than Fort Smith Arkansas. I'd allow a mature 12 year old with a phone to go to the store a block away. Cons -This is a hostel without anyone around to help. If stuff breaks you'll need to be patient with the manager. -The front door code works great but the kitchen code was not included in the welcome text. It's not the same code as the front door. -Our door broke and my girlfriend and I were patient with the lady on the phone but after two hours and multiple calls I had to be very firm. It was finally fixed. -in The same evening, there was a wedding reception below with loud music that ended around 1:30a. We had a long day planned the next day in Vieques with a wake up for 3:30a to get to the ferry. We got little sleep. Expect week thurs- sat to be like this. -Yes there are ants. Properly store your food. -Internet was down for a day. American phones may or may not charge for roaming. -Housekeeping may not get a message to clean your room. The housekeeper is around in the morning around 9am and is happy to help. Be kind to her and use a translator on Google. She'll get whatever you need. -The bathroom has a small step that is is easy to find with your toes in the dark. We used a towel to pad it. This could be an easy fix with plaster.. Would we return? Yes! We suggest room #1 it has bathtub and shower. This needs two chairs on balcony.

PLEASE DO NOT USE THIS PROPERTY!!!||The whole process of my stay in this place was a nightmare.||First they did not send any details on the codes, or room number as promised within 24 hours and so I had to call them 15 times from the airport to get the information and then later told that they only provide details to customers 30 mins before arrival which is really bad in my eyes and never heard of such nonsense due to security but it was an excuse.||Arrived at the room finally at 9:45pm on 4th Feb to find no bedding on mattress and stains all over the pillows and quilt. When I called again there was no response until the 5th attempt and told that 8am in the morning first thing everything will be sorted. So I had to place a towel on the bed and sleep on top after a 23 hour journey to San Juan.||Finally the next day no one arrived as promised and I had to complain again and got housekeeping over at 2pm who by do not speak any English. ||The service was appalling and they missed housekeeping 3 times in the 6 days I was there. When I asked for money back it was a FLAT no. ||In 6 days I called reception with complaints about hygiene, cleaning, maintenance 47 times.||I would strong advise you to find another place, I actually helped 3 other customers on their day of arrival in the week I was there to get them their rooms because the reception which is located elsewhere and not at La Calma. The whole process of my stay in this place was a nightmare.

First they did not send any details on the codes, or room number as promised within 24 hours and so I had to call them 15 times from the airport to get the information and then later told that they only provide details to customers 30 mins before arrival which is really bad in my eyes and never heard of such nonsense due to security but it was an excuse.

So I had to place a towel on the bed and sleep on top after a 23 hour journey to San Juan.

Finally the next day no one arrived as promised and I had to complain again and got housekeeping over at 2pm who by do not speak any English.

The service was appalling and they missed housekeeping 3 times in the 6 days I was there. When I asked for money back it was a FLAT no.

In 6 days I called reception with complaints about hygiene, cleaning, maintenance 47 times.

I would strong advise you to find another place, I actually helped 3 other customers on their day of arrival in the week I was there to get them their rooms because the reception which is located elsewhere and not at La Calma. This property is self assist and we’re leaving people standing on the streets as they had not provided details as any decent property should.
