Ben Franklins Deli — Restaurant in San Luis Obispo

First time customer and I simply was not impressed. Ordered the garden salad with chicken. Hubbys sando was brought out but my salad was missing... after a couple of minutes of confusion they found that, for unknow reasons, my salad order didnt make it back to the kitchen. I showed them my receipt and again specified that I'd ordered the Garden Salad-add Chicken. After a few minutes I was handed a chef salad. I let the gal know it was the wrong salad and reminded her what I ordered. She took it back and said it would be a few minutes. 5 minutes later I was handed another salad. At first glance it seemed ok (ecept for the exraordinarily huge pile of tomatoes and olives) so I took it and headed home... Once I got home, I quickly realized there was no bell pepper, no cucumber and no croutons.. all of which were included in the description... so dissapointed... hubbys sando was also made incorrectly. Mistakes happen, I get that, but most disappointing of all was the lack of concern and zero apology for the miscommunication. What ever happened to customer service?...

My husband has been a regular diner at Ben Franklin's for over 20 years; he always stops in when he's running errands in SLO. I am not particularly fond of sub sandwiches because of over-breadiness, so I have stayed away. But today I tagged along with hubby, since I wasn't hungry anyway. Once we got there, I looked beyond the sandwich menu; there were several veg salads and a homemade tomato bisque, which I ordered. It was SOOO delicious; every bite invited another, and soon I was scraping the bottom of the soup container with my plastic spoon. Only my manners kept me from licking the soup cup clean. I'm surprised by the five-star reviews here, and I suspect they were paid for. This place is understaffed with miserable employees who don't care. I've tried it several times and was never properly greeted. They started doing more business when they changed the menu to focus more on selling fried chicken. Good sandwiches, but don't go looking for an Italian sub here. I asked for extra oil and vinegar, but my sandwich was dry as bone...asked for extra cheese but didn't get much cheese at all! Expect to wait at least twenty minutes from the time you walk in until you get any food. My Cajun Chicken Sandwich was delicious but tiny...
