German Auto — Local services in San Luis Obispo

Wanted to like this place. Started off really good. Ended really poorly. Was treated like I was not Important and my car wasn't good enough for them. Was told they would research certain parts my car needed and would get back to me...they didn't. Was told my car was fixed for the issues I brought it in for...it wasn't. I am not doubting the work they did...but they were not thorough. No way they took my car for a test drive post repairs. Did not reset any of the systems and didn't seem very aware of what was done. On paperwork there were a lot of complaining about the condition of my car. Now it isn't perfect by far-its from 2005-but they treated me like I handed them a dumper that lived under a tree and never got an ounce of work done. I am disappointed. I wanted to be a new regular now that I can afford the work needed on my car. But from my experience...I wasn't enough for them to pay attention too. They took DAYS with my car...then call me at two o'clock to tell me I have to be here by five to pay for the car so they can close their books for the month...not giving a damn about the fact I am working as well. Had to leave my job...get written up- only to be treated poorly by them when I spent well over a grand. Wish things would of been different. I waited to be contacted and never heard from them again. I see many people like them...and I hope your experience is different but mine...

After living on the central coast for 14 years, we unfortunately had to move back home to the Central Valley Porterville California. I knew of German Auto‘s great reputation from living over there and hearing nothing but great about them so when my 2010 Audi A4 wagon had a no start on me. I suspected the timing chain and my suspicions were confirmed by Tucker who is probably the most professional shop manager that I have met in quite a while, he gave me an estimate for a one hour Diag and actually I like many other shops stuck to his estimate exactly what I was quoted as what I paid when I picked the car up I’d chose not to have the repairs done only because honestly, I wasn’t ready to spend that that much money but it’s also my fault. I didn’t perform routine maintenance which ultimately made the timing chain fail. I will use German Auto again more than likely I will have them put a new engine in for me. I just got a wait a couple of months , I have nothing but great to say about them. These guys tried to scam me by quoting a $4k job for something my car did NOT need. Said my clutch was about to go and quoted a flywheel change too in addition to plethora of other problems. 5k miles later, I have shown 2 other mechanics, who have said nothing is wrong with my car.

They tried to take advantage of my age. As a college student, do not come here.

EDIT since the owner thinks they're smart and can weasel their way out of this one. I chose this shop purely because they had such good reviews. I do own a Porsche and the quoted price was not the issue. In fact, 3.8k to repair a clutch and flywheel is very reasonable. This business tried to misdiagnose the car and in fact, took MONEY from me to misdiagnose those issues. They stated things such as shifter linkages that were about to go, and about $2k in additional repairs that were independent of the issue I came to them for. In the end, they made me very scared to drive my own car, which is just sad because THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG WITH MY CAR AT ALL. They probably thought I was young and dumb, thus...
