Chopstix & Taiwanese Bentos — Restaurant in San Mateo

The snacks here? Fire! Was looking for a quick snack in the SM DT area, and there’s always new one popping up. The work hubs and I ventured out to the area for a pick-me-up half day, and ended up at Shihlin. I love taiwan street foods. And man, what an awesome concept.

They’ve got the Taiwanese milk teas, the delicious quick snacks. All of it. So so good. I tried the oyster noodles, salt and pepper mushrooms, and jasmine milk green tea. I was honestly obsessed w the mushrooms, of all things! Bizarre, right?

Everything we got was pretty on point for Taiwanese comfort/night market food. Easy to order online and pick up in store. They had great ventilation inside with the back and front door open and several staff 😷 which is good for reducing spread of everything (yes, even in 2025, it’s not over y’all).

One thing to note— “Taiwanese tempura” is nothing like Japanese tempura. It refers to a kind of fish cake. We got them with plum seasoning which was too sweet and not right for this snack— go for...

Shrimp Omlette 蝦仔煎 is savory and chewy with that sweet tomato dipping sauce makes me feel like I'm at a night market
