Two weeks ago, my wife and I got a craving so I tried ordering two sushi rolls for take out. I tried to call several times, and all I got was the answering machine. Since I had come to expect pretty good service, I figured (perhaps) something was wrong with the phone, or it was too loud to hear it, or something else innocuous and forgivable. We were really in the mood for sushi, so I drove downtown to simply walk in and order. When I walked in I saw the place was about half empty, but many of the tables were still full of dirty dishes and there was one party waiting for a table. I stood there for about 15 minutes, and though many staff members looked right at me, no one approached me or greeted me. Continuing to give the benefit of the doubt because of my previous experiences, I chalked it up to them assuming that I was with the party that was waiting. Finally the party before me was seated, and I remained standing by the "Please Wait To Be Seated"sign.
After 10 more minutes of standing there looking at staff members looking at me but not dealing with me, someone finally approached and asked how they could help me. I said I was interested in ordering two sushi rolls to go. I was told it would be an HOUR AND A HALF wait to make two rolls, and it was suggested that I should have called in my order. (There were three sushi chefs behind the counter at the time, and one of them was just watching the other two…) When I explained that I tried to call but no one was answering the phone, the reply was "yeah, we've been busy, so we've been ignoring the phone…" This from the same person who just said I should have called in. I left without food, yet with a very bad taste in my mouth.
Tonight I decided to give them another shot - because again, service in the past had been VERY good. I have now tried calling the restaurant EIGHT TIMES over the course of the past 25 minutes, and all I have received is a busy signal. It would appear that their approach to addressing their recently-dismal customer service issues is to take the phone off the hook rather than letting it go to the machine… not a huge improvement…
In the past I have recommended this place to family and friends as a great place with great food and great customer service. I can no longer do that - so I am correcting myself with this review. I do so with hope that things will turn around - someone really needs to do something about staffing the place...
Read moreThere are very few restaurants that manage to pull off a multicultural selection of cuisine and do it well. Thai Nigiri is one of those restaurants. Truth be told, the place is almost like two completely separate, gourmet restaurants under one roof: on one hand, you have delicious, authentic Thai food. On the other, fresh sushi, prepared before your eyes.
The selection is great: whether you're in the mood for a plate of noodles, a steaming rice bowl, a spicy curry or some sushi and sashimi, you are bound to find something to your liking. The cuisine is simple, yet elegant, a fact reflected by the pleasing atmosphere. In addition, the prices are quite reasonable: this is without doubt a restaurant you can take the family to!
I myself am a vegetarian, so I always pay close attention to the options presented to vegetarian diners when I try a new restaurant. I am pleased so say that this place does not disappoint: nearly every main course on their Thai menu can be prepared without meat (just ask them for tofu; it's on the menu), and even their standard appetizers can be subbed with vegetarian options.
The service is great, and the food is always prepared promptly. The Thai chef seems like he has his art down to a science, it's that fast. There were a couple times when the place was packed that we had to wait a little longer (as the waitstaff were quite busy), but trust me; even if you end up waiting, you won't regret it!
It is worth noting that the lunch and dinner menus differ slightly: the lunch portions are slightly smaller (and less expensive), but come with a complimentary appetizer and bowl of soup, while the dinner menu features larger, slightly more expensive portions without the appetizers.
In summary, this is a terrific restaurant that I plan to frequent quite often! Check it out if you haven't already; you don't know what...
Read moreI’ve always really liked Thai Nigiri, so when my mom and I both called a total of 10 times in a span of 45 minutes just to be ignored, I was very disappointed. I called within the first 10 minutes of opening, only to have my first two calls ring straight through with no answer. My next two calls were both declined immediately because the line was busy. My fifth call was answered and they instantly hung up. I had my mom call on her phone to see if they would answer her calls, but we had the same results. For the last 4 years I have loved Thai Nigiri, so when I had this experience and read the comments of many other dissatisfied customers, I was very surprised. In my opinion, if you are “too busy” to answer your phone you have three options: you hire more people so as to have people to cover the phones and the floor, you don’t offer take out , or you don’t own a restaurant. It’s quite simple, actually. This restaurant’s lack of sufficient customer service is enough to make me never go back. Save your...
