Really good cupcakes, but very poor communication. My fiance and I were looking for a local bakery to order our wedding desserts from, and were really excited to find Nya's bakery in our search. We wanted to support a small business and loved the idea of something from the Sandy area.
Back in May, I reached out, by email initially (which is advertised as a method to contact the bakery), to inquire about the possibility of ordering one of Nya's advertised dessert bar/cutting cake packages and if they did tasting kits, but didnt hear anything back. I emailed again about a week later to follow up incase the original email had been missed as sometimes happens, and once again heard nothing back.
My work schedule fluctuated a lot and at the time, so I was working most of the bakeries hours and off when they were closed. However, after not hearing back to either email, I figured Id give calling a try on a fortunately timed lunch break. I did get through. I asked about the process for setting up a consult- and if they did tasting boxes. I gave the employee on the phone some brief info about our wedding plans (number of guests, date, ect), and had asked if there was anything else they needed from us. I was told someone would get back to me about the consult process, but that I could order a tasting box at any time and set a pickup date for that. We did get our tasting box, and enjoyed all but one of the four cupcakes in it (though to be fair it was a random flavor that we figured would be hit or miss) but once again never heard back regarding a consult or next steps after the tasting. If it seemed like too big of a project for the bakery (despite their website saying they offered the options) or if they were already booked around our wedding date- I'd understand; but we literally heard nothing from them.
We stopped in once, between the tasting kit, and the start of July to see if the bakery had any of the other desserts they advertised on their dessert bars to try ( the kit only included cupcakes) but had 0 luck. It seems they only carry a very limited selection at any given time (which is understandable for a small bakery but still a little disappointing). We did pick up some additonal cupcakes to try, and also enjoyed those.
At the start of July, I figured I'd try reaching out one more time since it sounded like May/June were part of a busy season for the bakery. This time I called to ask about scheduling a consult since email had gotten nowhere, and was told that I had to speak to Nya herself for /anything/ regarding weddings, and that in order to reach her I needed to call "/a lot/ earlier in the day" (the employees tone felt very much like she was annoyed to be talking to me at all and made me kind of regret calling in the first place) They bakery wasn't open the next couple days, so either way I had to wait to schedule a consult. I said Id try calling on another lunch break to try to make it work and would have to hope Nya was in since we really wanted to go through Nya's. I figured I'd try emailing just once more in the mean time, incase Nya was able to see it/respond with dates/times (since I wasnt sure I'd even be able to get ahold of Nya when they told me to try back) This time I got an emailed response that this week wouldn't work for a consult, but the following week on Thursday or Friday would. I replied to the email asking if we could plan for Friday and what times would work best for her. Ghosted again. No emails, no calls. I tried to call the Bakery on Friday just incase, but got no answer at all. At this point, I've still never been told if a consult was doable via phone or if we needed to come to the bakery (which seems to vary vendor to vendor). Either of these options my fiance and I were okay with doing, we just wanted to know what we needed to do to start the process. If it wasnt something the bakery wanted to take on, I wish they'd have just told us upfront. I probably should have given up sooner, but was really hoping...
We really enjoyed the cupcakes, just wish we could...
Read moreUpdating my earlier post since Nya’s has become a favorite stop in town. 🥰 I'm a fat woman so you can trust my opinion when it comes to delicious treats.
I'm a sucker for cream cheese frosting and Nya’s stuffed cookies ought to be considered national treasures. The snickerdoodle, spice or oatmeal cookies with the cream cheese frosting inside? Hoo, Lord! They are the perfect ratio of moistness and richness. I could write sonnets about them (and just might), they're THAT good. They're $5 each (at this writing) which I find fair for an ample, perfectly-baked dessert that leaves me sated.
My next favorite must-have is the cheesecake cup. It's about 12-ounces of layered cheesecake custard and graham cracker crumbles. Depending on the flavor, there are also layers of fresh fruit, or bits of Oreo, pumpkin pie or -- if God shines a light upon you, haha -- Nya’s lemon squares.
Another wonderful thing about the shop, though, is the loveliness of it all. It is awash in beautiful rose, gold and eucalyptus tones. It is sophisticated, but welcoming and cheery. It is a happy space and the staff are always smiling, helpful and glad to see you.
Lastly, the best thing about Nya’s Bakery is Nya herself. Before the shop opened, I belonged to a Sandy FB group and she posted that, due to a cancelation of a large corporate event, she had hundreds of brownies and baked goods to sell. She had outlayed lots of money on ingredients and needed to recoup some of her losses. The community responded, she sold everything, got donations and used those funds to open her shop. Her gratitude is ever-present and her dedication to her dream is genuinely inspiring, even to a jaded, old grump like me. I appreciate her long hours, creative themed menus, obsession with quality and how she highlights fellow local artisans. Nya’s Bakery is exactly what we...
Read moreI really wanted to like this place after trying the pesto biscuits that were great! I felt really bad hearing about the business struggling and wanted to support local so I ordered a large cake for a very very important event and the entire experience was awful. I came in weeks before the event to put the order in, I was told I would get a call in the next few days with price and nailing down more details, that never happened so I called a week later to make sure it was all set, I told the lady I spoke to that I needed the cake done before noon, great! Well I came to pick up my cake, prior to 12 and I was told the cake wouldn't be ready until 12:30-1. I drove 30 mins to get to the this bakery so timing was important. The owner than had the audacity to tell me that she has to work other people's orders around mine, when I made sure to come in weeks prior to avoid any of that. I was so annoyed at this point and against my better judgement, I went and got the cake when it was finally finished. I ordered a lemon and vanilla cake, that was supposed to alternate the flavors and be filled with lemon filling for between the layers. I paid $110 for a late COCONUT cake. I'm not a baker, that's why I go to the professionals but this woman ruined one of the most important events I've hosted and not only did I have to explain and apologize for her mistakes, I'm also out $110. Only two people finished their slices of cake and the rest was thrown away, and it was a very large cake. Find someone else for your baking needs because there is a reason this place was struggling...
