Service was awful. I came with a group of 4 on a Saturday at 3pm for their happy hour, which is clearly stated on their website. I showed it to the cashier and she told me that they no longer do happy hour on Saturdays at 3. Then the manager asked me what website I saw it on and I told her it was their website, and she seemed to not have believed me as I was showing it to the cashier, because she questioned me further! Instead of apologizing and giving us a happy hour price for a drink or two, they were rude about it. Cool. We ordered anyway and their lager was not coming out of the machine, so we ordered a different beer and then their lager machine magically decided to work again. Lastly, we were told we couldn’t order food because we didn’t have a table…. but we were waiting for a table… and of course as soon as we ordered drinks we got assigned a table and had to hop right back in line to order food. Please tell people this before they get in line for food. Why not just let us place our order and bring us the food to the table we were about to get? Food took forever anyway. It would’ve saved everyone time. We also weren’t allowed to use any of the seating outside of the bar area, for what reason I have no idea. There were at least 5 tables sitting empty. Giving 2 stars because their tri-tip was good, but clearly their staff needs to...
Read moreLarge outdoor space for food and drinks; be advised there is no indoor seating. Known locally for their butcher shop, the tri-tip sandwiches are great and there’s even a butcher shop on site to purchase various meats.
There’s a selection of “bar food” including wings, nachos, etc. Frankly I didn’t find any of this bar food to be very good during my visit. The fried items were excessively heavy and a bit overcooked with an unpleasant aftertaste, almost as if too much time had passed since the fryer oil had been changed. The nachos were also unnecessarily heavy, completely drowning and cheese and toppings making the dish oily tasting.
The drink menu is interesting here as it includes liquor but they don’t have a full bar. For example, if you order a whiskey soda they’ll hand you a shot of whiskey and ask you which bottle of soda do you want. Fine by me but not exactly what I was expecting. They have some other premix drinks here, along with regular beer and wine.
Overall this is a good place to meet with friends or larger parties since they have the space. I recommend sticking with the beer and wine along with what Shalhoob is known for: their butcher...
Read moreI love their meats from the butcher shop, let's see how they are in the kitchen. First impression: It's hard to find a spot to park, just as most everything in the Funk Zone.
Staff is friendly enough, and the prices aren't bad considering the neighborhood and assuming the meat is fresh. Good booze selection, I assume they farm out the brewing of their private label beer. It's not bad either way.
The tall tables and chairs may be hip, but they are also very uncomfortable. Okay, here comes the food!
First thing I try is the giant serving of street corn. OMG. It tastes like it is fresh off the cob and is probably the best street corn that I've had. Next up is the white BBQ smoked chicken and it is delicious. The smoke flavor is subtle and that's a perfect match for the white sauce.
My better half ordered nachos and it was so large we nibbled on it for three days. It was just as good as my chicken, too. I was also impressed with their homemade pickles, the pickled jalapeno, and the homemade pico de gallo.
I can't wait to go back and try their sandwiches, tacos, and pretty much the...
