It saddens me to write this review, but the management at this hotel are more interested in grabbing your money than making sure the guest is treated fairly. Their business model must target one-time tourist business with flashy ads and poor service.
I made a reservation for three rooms each for two nights. When I called the hotel to ask about parking, they told me it was $20 next door. I also inquired if the room was ready for an early check in, casually it was said call us when you arrive and if so then we can have you come in early. We arrived and at the front desk we asked if we could check in early or if we should come back since check in was 4pm and we arrived around 3pm. The young gentleman Kyle was super cool and told us to go ahead and settle in. There was no mention of any early check in fee over the phone nor in person. It was not until I reviewed my credit card statement after checkout that I saw I was being charged a $15 early check in fee. When I called to ask why I was being charged they told me that it turns out that when we checked out the invoice was reviewed. I asked by whom, because I certainly was not informed, instead by someone in my party unauthorized to discuss payment, since I was treating the family to a weekend in SB). Despite review of invoice upon checkout with one of my guests, it’s not alright to mention there’s a charge for undisclosed fees after they’ve already occurred. I called the hotel over the course of two weeks trying to speak to manager Bris, she would not return my calls and my messages were ignored. So I resorted to emailing her and she did not even have the courtesy to respond. After she ignored two of my emails, she finally responded to the third! Yet, they wouldn't give me a refund. Manager Bris would not issue a refund said the hotel wouldn't allow it. They just kept my money.
I am a repeat travelor to Santa Barbara and they didn't care. I spent $1800 over two nights and Bris would not offer to reverse the undisclosed early check in fee. The fee although minor in comparison to overall bill, it’s the principal of how this matter was poorly handled. Any other hotel I’ve stayed at if the room is ready, they have the choice to allow you to check in early (I’ve never seen fees for this, but I’m sure if there are they would make it clear). My group was in no rush, had we known, we would have simply grabbed a bite to eat. Everything is in walking distance. I am forewarning you this hotel does not care at all about customer concerns, and is completely complacent to operate in an...
Read moreThe Haley Hotel took $400 from me for a reservation I did not make.
EDIT 07/16/2024 This actually happened to me, first of all, and no part of it is a lie. By extension, everyone who I was with observed this experience as well, and their reviews are fair assessments of what actually happened. The Haley Hotel, clinging to their helpful "small business" practices, has still refused to respond to my (many) attempts to reach out to solve this, which is the only reason I wanted to warn others of this possibility. I will also add the detail that the woman who checked me in charged my debit card for the cancelled reservation (again, the one I didn't make), and as such, there was no credit card company I could "take it up" with. If the allure of a small business is meant to be its customer service, look elsewhere. The Haley Hotel's gaslighting responses to my and my party's experience should tell you all you need to know. Hope you don't get scammed like me! :)
I called the Haley Hotel on Tuesday, Mar 26 to ask about availability for room from March 30 to April 1, 2024. Without finishing my reservation, and without my consent, the person I talked to on the phone booked a reservation for me from March 30 to March 31--not the correct length of time, because again, I didn't even mean to make a reservation over the phone. I then later booked my actual reservation online, as I had originally meant to do. Later, when I tried to clear up the erroneous booking that the front desk person made for me without my consent, I was told that the reservation would be cancelled and I would be charged, despite the fact that I hadn't even made the reservation in the first place. They charged me almost $400 for a room that they booked on my behalf, without my confirmation or permission. I had no problem paying for the room that I did stay in, but when I asked to speak to someone who could help clear this up, I was told it was "just company policy" and "nothing could be done." I didn't even get to talk to someone besides the front desk. Since then, I have tried to communicate with the Haley Hotel to resolve this situation, but they have been intransigent and opaque. I'm going to file a complaint with the Better Business Bureau because this is wack. If you decide to book here, you'd better be sure nothing goes wrong--otherwise, they have no problem taking your money and telling you to deal with it. I hope they contact me to correct this mistake because after all of my attempts to contact them, they seem not to...
Read moreI had an overnight stay here while in town for work and unfortunately, I didn't leave feeling like it was the most amazing experience. At first glance when booking and arriving, I definitely loved the general atmosphere + aesthetic of the hotel but had I read deeper into the other reviews I likely wouldn't have stayed here because I too experienced things others did. Check in process wasn't great... I got an email a day before about checking in early online. I tried over and over and it just kept telling me my stay wasn't valid. I had to check-in via hotels.com instead of the link Haley Hotel sent me because it was the only way i could get it to work. Then I did their mobile key via the app as they ask you to do and it says that the key becomes available at your check-in time which is 4pm (felt like a late check-in time, but that i was fine with). By 430 u still don't have this mobile key so I check-in at the front desk and they give me a room tag and that didn't work but luckily my phone gave me the mobile key right as the room tag thing wasn't working so I didn't have to deal with the office. I left for my session (I'm a photographer) and I came back and my room had ants. I had 0 food in the room and hadn't even unpacked since I went straight to work. Found the source of where the ants were coming from and it was from dog food leftover from a past guest that housekeeping clearly missed. The room was hot, and the air doesn't work. if you try messing with it to kick it on, it just says locked - this was pretty disappointing considering it was fairly warm while I was in town. The bed was hard, and not very comfortable after hiking. The shower is cute, but the design of the door makes it to where water just goes everywhere. Overall, aesthetically yeah this hotel is a tourist trap. I stayed on a Monday so I didn't experience the noise as others complain of. but I was put in the corner next to the laundry room and I was awoken as the staff kept hitting the wall and the bed is up against the wall that is shared with the laundry room. If you need a place to stay for a quick sleep then this place is fine. BUT overpriced for the quality. I wouldn't recommend staying here if you plan to spend multiple...
