REVIEW UPDATE:
I'm a fan of everything about the place...the good service, customizable burger options, the ability to 50/50 fries and onion rings so you don't have to make that choice...BUT in my most recent visit I learned that they no longer offer the Impossible Burger patty as the vegetarian option and have instead replaced it with a new vegan patty which is reminiscent of older veggie burgers and not quite up to the task of simulating a real burger experience. There are different kinds of vegetarians...some of us give up meat for dietary needs or moral considerations...not because we didn't enjoy eating it. So when I'm looking for a veggie-burger experience, I want it to be as close to the real thing as possible. That's what they had with the Impossible patty. The vegan veggie patty option that replaced it is a big step backwards. There are plenty of local restaurants (similar chains, nicer sit-down spots and more) that offer an Impossible or Beyond patty. I can't imagine going back to the Habit (which used to be at the top of our list for a "burger" experience) with this new veggie patty as the offering.
ORIGINAL REVIEW: As vegetarians, we really love getting to feel like "regular" people with a good vegetarian burger and fries. America! Enter The Habit...not too far from where we live and also available on all the delivery services, with their excellent Impossible Burger (available as a sub on all their variety of burgers)...cooked well and filling. Hurrah! We also love that you can get a half and half of fries and onion rings. Sometimes you just don't want to choose...or you want to be sneaky and take an onion ring and put it on your burger without giving up the fries component. You can do that here! The Habit is one of our go-to places to have a classic burger and fries meal (as vegetarians!) and we're really happy it's here. They've got a bunch of shake options too though the last time we ordered them they were a bit more milky than ice-creamy. I do wish they had malt powder too. We'll definitely be...
Read moreThis review is coming from a very low carb person - and since I stay away from fake fats (like those found in most mayo), I don't have the same experience as most.
The cheeses available are also fake.
So, my burger was beef (bland), tomato, lettuce, pickles, avocado. It was SUCH a meh festival.
If you have the burger as they intend, it is surely better. However, the stuff seems to be built on a bland-ish foundation.
UPDATE 2019 11 22
A couple of days back I got a notification asking me to contact the Habit about my review. I did - and received no response. The review was and is 3 stars and I was specific about my reasons. Bottom line: the foundation of the burger was bland. As stated, get it how they prepare it by default (sauces, etc) and it'll probably be better. It's just full of stuff I...
Read moreThe Habit has a new executive chef, and as usual, he has made changes. No Blue Cheese is available for the Santa Barbara Cobb salad, replacing it with bland White Cheddar. The lettuce blend is terrible, with no structure, no crunch, and no flavor for both the Cobb and Garden salads. Blue Cheese Dressing has been dropped. Also, the dressing soaks into the new salad containers and makes them soggy. My advice is don't change what is core on the menu, offer options, or invent new items. When restaurants deviate too far from what made them great in the first place, they often fail. We won't be getting salads at The Habit any time soon, unless some changes to the current recipes. Hope they don't start messing with the...
