I placed an order online at 7:30pm. About 5 minutes after I placed my order I left to go pick it up. I live about 15 minutes away from the closest rio cafe. I had to do multiple pick-up for orders that I placed and my rio cafe order was going to be my last pick-up because it’s the farthest away. I finally arrived at rio cafe at 8:35pm. An hour after I placed my order. They had my order sitting on the counter and I was as able to just state my name and grab my bag and go after I stopped to grab some napkins, utensils & a straw. I walked out and started to drive away. When I was about five-ish minutes down the road, I realized they didn’t give me my appetizer of guacamole. If your family is anything like my family, we take our guacamole very seriously so showing up without it would be a crime in my household. I turn around and bring my order back in to show them that I’m missing the guacamole. They quickly went and got my order of guacamole but upon giving it to me, no apology for forgetting it. Just handed me the container. I didn’t say anything but I wasn’t happy considering the fact that I showed up more than an hour after I placed my order so it wasn’t like they didn’t have enough time to prepare it and on top of that, they weren’t busy. They had 1 person in line when I picked up my order. I finally got home with guacamole in hand and everyone was starving. We immediately opened the guacamole and the container was halfway filled! I’m so frustrated!!! I don’t go to rio cafe because it’s a little far from where I live and I’m not usually on that side of town but we decided we wanted something different tonight. I now will not buy anything from rio cafe. They’re food is good but clearly the customer service sucks and they don’t care about the customers. I didn’t have a complicated order or unrealistic...
Read moreI worked here for a few years. Very fun place to work, there was like no down time and the day went by quickly. I loved my coworkers, we felt like a little family. The food is really good. I got the food at Cafe Rio every day I worked and was never sick of it. Made fresh daily, from whole ingredients.
Literally everything is prepped and cooked in store. I would always tell people, Not only are the tortillas made in the store, but they shred cheese from blocks, and bake the deserts in store. I would even make whipped cream from scratch. However, not good for those who are trying to have a low salt diet. The ice in the soda machine has literally the best ice ever. If you like spicy, the salsa fresca is delicious! I would always ask for some limes on the side and add extra lime juice to mine. I also recommend the house dressing. The dressings are also made fresh in store.
The lines can sometimes be long, or they'll be out of stuff because the store is chronically understaffed. You're least likely to find a line around 2-4pm.
I'm gluten intolerant and vegetarian, so I often have trouble finding food. I wouldn't recommend the place for those with celiac because there's like aerosolized four in the air from the fresh tortillas. If you have other allergies, there's a nutrition/allergy pamphlet in the store you can use.
I usually order a veggie tostada sans the actual tostada. So it was like rice and beans with a salad on top. The main downside for me as a vegetarian is that they don't have actual veggies besides the lettuce and the salsas. Nothing like bell peppers, onions, zucchini, etc, but they'll give you a scoop of free guac on the vegetarian options. The servings are generous, and I was well satisfied by the heaping scoops of steaming...
Read moreMy wife came here to get lunch and also asked if I wanted something from here. I had their quesadilla before and it was not my favorite so I looked at their menu online. I decided to go with the grilled chicken burrito with no bean, add rice, add cheese, no wet burrito and salsa on the side. My wife got her chicken enchiladas. The store got rid of their self serve salsa bar so you have to ask for any toppings or sides. I wanted extra pico de gallo so they give it to her in a decent size cup and 2 red salsa. When my wife got home, we started eating her food. I cut my burrito in half and saw there was barely or little amount of grilled chicken in there. Maybe that's why they don't cut it in half for you so you can't see how much meat is in there. They put way more rice than chicken so I know it's a way save on cost because another place similar to here does the same thing. I didn't taste or see any cheese in my burrito but my wife said she saw them add someone so I believe they just added a little bit. I did not like the red sauce either so overall my grilled chicken burrito was not that good. My wife thought her...
