La Cocina Dona Clara Monday, December 2 at 9:00 am The dining room at La Cocina Dona Clara is filled with color. Hand carved, brilliantly painted booths and tabletops line the room. Traditional murals and art fill the walls. The ceiling is festooned with colorful Papel Picado garlands. It is all a great introduction to our breakfast. We were greeted warmly and had our pick of tables. Our server came promptly with a warm hello and beverages immediately following. My large and colorful cup was filled with excellent coffee. The menu offers a wide variety of authentic Mexican dishes. I ordered a Breakfast Burrito, a huge flour tortilla filled with sausage, potato and egg, smothered in a delightfully spicy green chile sauce with lettuce and tomato on the side. My husband had Huevos Al Gusto with authentic Mexican chorizo, refried beans, potato, topped with 2 eggs over easy, a big dollop of sour cream, chopped lettuce and tomato. The Huevos were served with red chili sauce and a very spicy and hot yellow chili sauce on the side. All of the food was very flavorful and especially delicious. Special: 4 Taco Cost: $1 2.00
La Cocina del Donna Clara There are plenty of options, with eight different types of tacos, each with its own toppings. Beans and rice are available at an extra cost. The asada was one of the best we’ve tried—juicy, flavorful, and cooked perfectly.. On the side, the pico de gallo was fresh, the red salsa had a nice spicy kick, and the green salsa was tasty and well-balanced.
The meal was enjoyable, and the service was good, but things took a turn when the bill arrived. We ordered three orders of four tacos, expecting to pay $36.00 based on the menu price of $12.00 per order. However, we were charged $42.00, as if we had ordered six orders of two tacos instead. This unexpected price difference was frustrating, despite the great food.
The tacos were delicious, but the pricing confusion was...
Read moreMy husband and I wanted to try the menudo and gorditas from the restaurant for quite some time. We have driven several times throughout the day and the sign they have outside with the look of the place seemed authenthic and delicious enough to try. Once we ordered the food did not take long to be made and served to go. Upon opening the both the large menudo and the 3 gorditas, which were charge individualy were quite a dissapointment. The gorditas were not "gorditas" but "flakitas." They lacked salt, flavor and the garnish was enough for one flakita. The lettuce looked like it was frozen and thawed to serve. The large menudo tasted like water, no flavor what so ever. It seemed as if meat and maíz were cooked seperate, or maybe they just put it togehter last minute. The only authentic look and flavor was the 2 bottle coca colas we ordered...
