Update Red Enchilada Tuesday, January 27, Noon 5 Stars Red Enchilada is a family-owned Salvadoran and New Mexican restaurant in business for the last 15 years at the same corner of Osage Ave and Cerrillos Road. The dining rooms are cheerful and bright and welcoming with many hand painted South American murals. We were warmly greeted and served with our favorite beverage, horchatas. If you have never ordered this beverage do. The creamy, sweet and spiced drink is great accompaniment to a Central American meal. One of the unique offerings on the menu are Salvadoran pupusas. The pupusas have a choice of fillings (cheese, veggies, or chicharrones,) and are a relative rarity on Santa Fe menus. But we both went for the Blue Corn Enchilada plate, my choice chicken and green chile, my husbandâs beef and red chile.) The plates are served with ample helpings of posole, Spanish rice and refried beans with a tart Salvadoran Crema, a nice contrast to the hot chile sauces. Shredded lettuce and sliced tomato come with the meal, but you can ask for curtado (shredded and brined cabbage, onion, carrot and jalapeno) served on the side. My blue corn enchilada came covered in delicious green chile sauce and lots of melted cheese. Both of our enchiladas, rice and beans were done just right and very tasty. We sat in a booth by the window in a roomy dining room, quiet and conducive to conversation (68 dB). Prices are reasonable. Great local place to try.
Red Enchilada Sunday, October 16, 2022 9:30 am 5 stars
Red Enchilada, easily accessible on Osage Avenue just off Cerrillos, has been in business in Santa Fe for 19 years yet remains undiscovered by many. The menu is New Mexican with a Salvadorian influence. The cozy neighborhood atmosphere was welcoming on a rainy Sunday morning in October. Ordered the Super Combo Breakfast with green chile topped scrambled eggs, carne adovada, refried beans and potatoes. All was tasty, though the green chile and the carne adovada sauces could have been hotter. Also ordered Los Amigos, two poached eggs and spinach swimming in mild red chile sauce, with three rashers of (somewhat dry) bacon and potatoes. The serving was ample though the red chile sauce was not as spicy and hot as others in Santa Fe. The hot chocolate was especially sweet and delicious. The wait staff was warm and friendly as well as solicitous of our comfort. We watched a few minutes of an international soccer game on one of two TV screens, which was different and fun. Our SoundCheck app rates the sound level as Moderate (63 Db). All in all a very positive experience. Red Enchilada is definitely worth a visit.    Read moreThis restaurant is a little whole in the wall; in santa fe new mexico. When I first went inside I was unsure if the food I order was going to be good or even to my liking. To my surprise this food is more than good it is great. I had the combination plate with both red and green chile. The refried beans are great. I don't like the way restaurant's make Spanish rice but this place makes it wonderful. My taco was great at first I got upset because they didn't send me any salsa for it but it didn't need any because the meat was seasoned perfect with the right amount of Chile season in the meat. The soapillias were amazing. I am Hispanic and get very offended when restaurant miss up on our food in any way but the red enchiladas restaurant makes the chile's, beans rice and in between just like home. I was unsure to try this restaurant because I know it wasn't New Mexican food but I would recommend it to any person that loves New Mexican food because it is wonderful food!! Glad I decided to eat here, will go back as many times that I can because of the wonderful food, great service and great prices. Go hungry because they give you ALOT OF FOOD FOR GREAT PRICES AND I MEAN ALOT OF FOOD! ! Thank you for the great...
Read moreI was super hangry and just about road-raged, on Osage headed towards Baja Taco for a quick fix, when I spotted this little place and thought to myself..."Oh...that looks like a perfect alternative to a big-box restaurant." Boy was I spot-on. This place was đ„đ„!! I got the carne asada burrito. Best I ever had. Steak was large-cut slices. Grilled to absolute perfection. Chile (christmas) may be the best I ever had. The red just rocked my world. Sopa was so delectable out of the bag, I had to mow it down before I got to the burritto.
I ordered at the counter to-go. Took a good 15 minutes but was SO worth the wait. No stars detracted for that wait because there is no reason to not expect to wait 15 minutes (or more) for amazing fresh cooked food even if you are grumpy-hangry. The final satisfaction was beyond worth it. I think my bill was $13 and change. Which I was thrilled with for the quality and portion size.
Panza llena, corazon contento.
Can't wait to eat there again.
I am hoping they sell containers of their chile...
