My wife's family has owned Mexican restaurants. That does not make me an expert. What I do is appreciate great food.
Los Potrillos is excellent. From the simple chips before we looked at the menu, to tjhe entrees. Across the board excellent. The Chili Rellenos was one of the best I have ever had. This is saying a lot since I have been in search of the great Chili Rellenos. The red chili over the enchiladas, superior to what is usually a mediocre effort on most restaurants. This red chili was excellent. From the chili rellenos to chesese and chicken enchiladas, to the pork gorditas which had the red and green chili.... this too was excellent. Even the rice and beans were memorable.
It all came together. Usually there is weakness somewhere but I have to say, and we have a range of things this was by far in my top of of Mexican restaurants, ever. Oh, and yes, the service was excellent too.
Everything was excellent to very good. Mosly excellent. We have experienced many mexican restaurants in the Northen New Mexico area, and all over the USA and have ascribed 5 stars to only one in New Mexico. Now, two with Los Potrillos.
Don't think. Just do this. We are extending our stay an extra just to go back and externeice it again. We know this is true because we had very high props from several people and now we...
Read moreUnfriendly waitress not smiling, said nothing and stood there after grabbing 2 menus. I had to say “two please.” Should have turned around right then and there. I Notice she was friendly, greeting people and smiling to others after us. We’re not her kind of brown I guess. Ordered Chile relleno stuffed with shrimp. What came out was not what I’m used to calling “Chile rellenos”. I knew it was going to be the bigger green poblano, but it did not have the egg coating. Maybe it’s the egg shortage and I brought it up to the unfriendly waitress and she said they only put cheese on top. So it was unseasoned plain rubbery shrimp, covered by a poblano pepper, melted cheese and watery tasteless red sauce. The corn in the rice was old. It was also served with broccoli with sautéed mushrooms which was different. Sounds like a variety of things but there was no flavor. No garlic, butter, no onions. It took so long that my tortillas were no longer warm. Other people seated after us got their food before us. Unsatisfying to my pallet and wallet. Won’t return and we were debating on where to go for lunch since we’re from out of town. My daughter liked her ceviche, but states it didn’t have to cost that much- $21.00. Which is true. Gave our Saturday in Santa Fe a bad taste and feeling....
Read moreI used to like this place but CUSTOMER SERVICE here is absolutely terrible!!!! I ordered tacos for coworkers and when I got to my job I noticed they were not what I ordered. I called them and told them I needed to be compensated for their error and told them there was no way I could leave my job until night. The guy who made the tacos there said he knows he made error and he would only refund me my money back if I returned the tacos at NIGHT when I got off of work. So at this point he admitted he made the mistake but could not compensate me on anything without me having to waste my gas and money and loose hours at work to go back and return food which at night will go bad ??! Are you serious!!? And at this point I wanted to talk to the manager but he said he was not available. Listen to me it's not about getting the $14 bucks for the 6 tacos I ordered. It's about principle! If this establishment cared about its customer service they would do a little bit more to take care of the customers that consistently go there. All of my co workers love going to this place in the morning but it really seems like these people here could care less about its customer service. There are way too many restaurant last to choose from and obviously they must have enough business to loose...
