I lived in Santa Maria in the early 90s, and worked at PCPA theaterFest, and El Taco de Mexico was in its prime. Cheap, delicious, freshly made tacos and burritos – – they really couldn’t be beat. I’ve always stopped through on my way to and from the Bay Area to visit family since relocating further south. It was always good, though a bit greasy. Stopped through today, and the ownership has changed and they’ve added a huge Oaxacan menu. I had the tlayudas, which I didn’t get to eat until five hours later, because it was so big and my enmoladas completely filled me up. I over-ordered, but brought lots of it to my brother up north. He commented on how delicious the ground beef on the tlayudas was. The tortillas in the enmoladas was unbelievably good – – homemade this morning, I’m sure. And the molé was fantastic, as good as anything I’ve had in Mexico, with delicate and complex flavors. I’m going to try to stop back by on my way home, and will tell all my friends in Santa Maria and Orcutt about it. Read moreThought the food was nothing spectacular. It was bland the rice taste like it was made out of a box the meat lacking the flavor it should have and they put to many beans and rice and not enough meat so the burrito was a no for me I thought I’d try the pastor in a taco maybe thought that was going to be the best dish it wasn’t meat lacks any flavor at all if you don’t cook pastor right it doesn’t taste good. Limes were dried out kinda did not finish my food the food quality is not great compared to other taco de Mexico restaurants I have visited the best taco de Mexico resides in Morro bay ca I would not come back simply because I did not enjoy the food. Suggestions change the cooks or better quality ingredients would make this a better restaurant to eat at...
Read moreThis is more of a taco stand than a restaurant. I ordered the mole plate that came with beans and rice and one taco de Pastor. The chicken in the mole was the butt of the chicken, there was no meat just bone not sure why you would even serve that. But I figure because this is a small mom and pop shop they are doing what they can with what they have. I go to the second piece of chicken and got another butt. It was like the movie Norbit, so that was a waste. But the mole itself was good. Then the taco. The meat was damn dry, I have no idea how long it was sitting out since it was hard, and bland. Needless to say this was my first and last time I wish I would of taken pictures of the two butts of chicken in my mole. How would I take you up...
