I recently had a terrible experience at Bay Cities Italian Deli. As I walked in with my ADA service dog, the cashier yelled out “ You cannot come in here” I responded with shock and said for what? The female cashier said you have a dog and you are not allowed. She yelled this in front of a store of customers, and I responded that my dog was an ADA service dog. She did not follow the ADA law that limits a business to two questions about the service animal. Instead, she repeated “ you cannot come in”. I told her she was breaking the disabilities act by blocking me as a disabled person with my service dog. She replied, she was going to call her manager and told me to stand outside of the store. She was attempting to humiliate me with a hostile tone of voice and yelling in front of customers, I was approached by the manager, who I know now as Hector Padilla. Hector asked me what was going on, and I told him that his employee refused me entrance with my ADA service dog and that his employee did not follow the law by asking me the two permissible questions if it was a service animal and what task it performs. He agreed that his employee did not act correctly and needed to ask those questions. However, Hector, then interrogated me himself going way beyond what’s legally permissible by asking about my disability, what my service animals age was, how it Addressed my disability and what training my service dog had. Hector began lecturing me about dog training, claiming he was an expert dog trainer, and telling me that my service dog cannot provide service for my disability. I kept calm, But it felt abusive, highly intrusive, and showed this establishments hostility towards access for disabled people.
Here’s when things get crazy. Hector then tells me I’m free to go into the store and shop. I thought there would be no more issues so I went ahead and ordered my sandwiches. I did notice that the cashier was Real from duty while I was waiting, which I thought was strange. I wasn’t sure if she was getting off duty or if she was being reprimanded. However, when I went to pay, I noticed the security guard that they have in the front was staring at me and smirking, making comments to other employees. It felt intimidating and ominous, I just wanted to get my sandwiches and get out.
As I walked out the door, I was met by two animal control officers this deli manager Hector and the staff at Bay Cities had made up a story to further humiliate me and create a confrontation after I spent 60+ dollars on two very overpriced sandwiches and small items and been told I was free to shop. The animal control people confirmed Hector and his staff contacted them because I had an animal in this establishment. I explained the situation about the ADA service and confirmed I could shop there after he and his staff did everything they could to humiliate harass me. After I explain the situation, the animal control people were not pleased that he had taken advantage of them by calling them and denying me entry. he also lied to them that I entered out without permission when he told me I could come in and shop. It was obvious that they had been used by Bay Cities to try and create a confrontation and that being called out was a waste of taxpayer dollars to harass a person with disabilities who just was trying to go out and get some food Confirmed and called animal control officers because I was shopping shows real hostility.
The animal control officers were sympathetic to my situation and agreed, I was within my ADA rights and they were being used by Bay Cities to harass me. I got my car I left and was very shaken up by the whole experience. These officers were very professional and I appreciate them for doing their jobs and getting down to the truth of the situation.
I looked into other reviews And they target people with ADA. This should be addressed to protect people under the disability to rely on ADA service animals if you or anybody else has had this type of experience at Bay Cities please contact the BBB and/or The state civil...

As I was walking in a man with a white mask on yelled at a customer because apparently he was standing in the center of the walkway. The store was packed with people and the line was long. When I reached the cashier I explained to her that I bought the wrong item & wanted to exchange it. The cashier pointed at the man behind her. She looked at me petrified. When I glanced over I realized that it was the same person who was rude to the customer when I arrived. I excused myself kindly to him and explained my situation. He was extremely rude, loud and obnoxious. I told him that I was already on line and could not be help by cashier #1. He replied, that he didn’t care if I was on line or not that I had to get back on line. That in each register there was a sign. I was humiliated. I am a 51 year old woman. I felt as if I was being scolded by this rude individual. He made a foul scene. I got back on line & waited my turn. When I reached him, I ask him his name. He replied, my name is Bryan with a Y. I told him that on either line there was no sign explaining where to do an exchange or return. He basically through me out of the store. After placing the exchange he proceed by asking me for the dollar that he owed my because the product that I was returning was a dollar cheaper. He also refused to give me my refund until he realized that he was at the wrong. I have never been so humiliated in my life. I then come to find out that he is the OWBER of the Bay Cities Italian Deli & Bakery. BRYAN YOU ARE A DISRESPECTFUL & A REVOLTING HUMAN BEING. YOU LACK CUSTOMER SERVICE, INTEGRITY AND SIMPLE HUMAN DECENCY. ITS A SHAME HOW YOU SPEAK TO PEOPLE ESPECIALLY THE PEOPLE WHO ARE MAKING YOU RICH. SHAME ON YOU & I WILL NEVER STEP FOOT IN YOUR BUSINESS AGAIN. I WILL SHARE MY EXPERIENCES WITH...
Read moreParking is sometimes a nightmare, & since I moved a few years ago, I am no longer fortunate enough to be within walking distance of the Godmother. this doesn't stop me from wanting it though. So of course i tolerate the 15 mile drive/ride out for one. 😂 I have fond memories of the flavor/texture of the bread, but not of the eating experience. i always had to take the bottom off my sandwich to be able to eat it without all the fillings getting pushed out with each bite lol. i love that they offer lettuce wrapped & "just on the paper" versions of every sandwich. i always pay for the extra meat & cheese, but to be honest i am not sure if I've actually been given it. seems pretty small - but it could just be that it looks smaller without the bread to beef it up size-wise. i would need to order 2 sandwiches, 1 with extra & 1 as is, to be able to actually see the difference to know for sure.
pro tip... the wait can be long so order ahead if you know what you want. *follow the path to the left going behind the checkout lines - you will see a cheese case & people making sandwiches, keep going. there will be a fridge & a metal rack with sandwiches against the wall. also in that fridge they do usually have plenty of pre-made menu sandwiches in the back as well (or at least i saw plenty of godmothers!) so if you are not customizing at all & just want it "as is" they might have it ready to grab & go. there's fresh bread back here too if you want more 😉
is it the best sandwich in LA? might not be, i haven't tried them all. (honestly if we are talkin' favorites, this ties with jersey mikes for me 🤣 but then again, i am particularly fond of the East Coast's sandwiches from my decade spent there. ☺️ i am also not counting Pastrami sandwiches in the running, which i also love, bc i consider that to be in a different Sandwich...
