Calif Chicken Cafe — Restaurant in Santa Monica

I just went to your establishment which I have been going to for as long as you've been open. I'm 39 and have been dining since I was a kid. I'm nad writing this review but thats how awful ny experience was. I'm had attempted to order online 5x and never received the code to do so, so I called to place it over the phone. The guy who answered rudely told me I could order in person as you don't take phone orders. I show up to find 7 people standing outside the restaurant on the street corner. I guess that is your new method of dining? I ordered 2 salads and sat outside watching as your team prepared orders. After 10 min of standing around (which would have never happened if I ordered online) I finally asked the woman who was outside taking orders, whether my food was ready. Its salad. She had to walk away from taking orders to see if ours was ready. Thats not how restaurants should operate. Not one emoloyee was running out orders to those standing outside. Instead it appeared everyone inside working was worried about completing food ordees for Uber eats, door dash. Restaurants have opened their doors however you guys have done the opposite. I've never jumped through so many hoops just to order 2 salads. If I had not asked whether my salad was even ready I would have waited longer. Very sad that a place I've gone too since being a kid has made their customers feel like they aren't a priority or that they should stand outside in the cold while waiting for food. To top it off you guys didn't even give us our pita bread either. Normally this type of experience wouldn't leave such a bad taste in my mouth but you guys did everything but make me feel like you appreciate...

🔴🔴 MY CHICKEN WAS RAW AND UNDERCOOKED VERY SALTY !!!! TERRIBLE!!! DISGUSTING!!! PASTA SALAD TOO MUCH MAYONNAISE AND ALSO VERY SALTY!!!! NOT WORTH THE HYPE OR PRICE. I’m just gonna give an honest review. I’ve only been to this place several years ago. The last time I was here was before the pandemic started. It was at the time when this location had indoor seating. I felt like that at that time this place was hopping, and the food was pretty good. This place totally went down the drain after the pandemic.

I just don’t understand why people think this place is still the hype. It’s honestly not even worth the price either. Absolutely expensive and NOT worth it. I ordered for Uber pick up and my chicken was RAW and it was not thoroughly cooked. It was still pink on the inside. It was mushy and disgusting. On top of that it was extremely salty. I also ordered the pasta salad, which was also filled with mayonnaise and TONS of salt. The chicken had SO much salt in it. It was literally like the dead sea. I just don’t know what’s So great about this place anymore? It has totally tarnished right after the pandemic ended. I also feel like that because they also expanded to more locations. The quality of the food is diminishing slowly. Never have I ever seen such a disaster in a restaurant in my whole life. I felt like when they were only in the Santa Monica location back in the day they were doing a lot better. I just feel like a lot of businesses after the Covid pandemic have lost a lot of love and compassion cooking food. It seems like nobody really cares anymore. This is why I just cook at home most...

This is my to go place and there’s no time to make dinner or I need a quick salad for lunch. My fave is the southwest salad. Hits the spot. The Caesar is also yummy but I don’t like it with avocado. I love avocado. Just not on my Caesar salad. The south west salad I get without chicken because it’s lighter that way. The Chinese chicken salad is also a must but I recommend getting it without chicken if you are already getting chicken on the side otherwise it ends up being too much. The pink pasta salad is yummy. Also the cabbage slaw and the roasted potatoes with squash. Mmm mmm! Also don’t forget to try their brócoli soup! It’s such a delight you won’t know you needed until you try it. Now I’m hungry for everything I just mentioned! Oh btw I don’t think they allow people inside anymore. I think it’s just takeout on the side of the building under the canopies.
