Being one of the top LA spots for a NY slice, I had to check this place out. The place is very small but there is an area that you can eat, outside, which gets the job done. The menu is very basic that focuses mainly on pizza. Either a slice or a large pie are your only options. So we started off with various slices and I put an order in for pickup at a later time. The pizza was amazing! Nice and thin with zero flop. The crust had a great crunch to chew ratio and the flavor was simple and balanced. What makes this pizza so good is that the sauce, cheese, and crust compliment each other making it a well rounded (no pun intended) pie. I can eat their plain pies all day because there isn’t any need to hide the slice under a bunch of toppings. This place is as close to NYC as your going to get and this beats out a lot of pizzeria’s that I used to frequent when I lived in the Bronx. Score: 4.65 out of 5 Pros: Simple, delicious, true NY style Cons: It’s 3 hours from my house My family and I will be back and I will definitely plan a trip to Santa Monica to satisfy my pizza fix.

NYC-style pizza close to the Santa Monica Pier that’s open late. We stop by here when we’re on the way to the Santa Monica Pier concert, as it’s relatively quick and easy to carry. It was $3.80 for a slice of white pizza and for a whole pie, it’s $22-26 depending on the pizza. The pepperoni pizza isn’t really worth it - either get the white pizza or the Sicilian. You’re supposed to order first with the person available and then pay at the counter but this time we just paid at the counter first and then he grabbed us our pizzas. If you’re taking out even just a slice, they’ll put it in a regular box. They take the pizzas out of the oven so be aware you’re not getting pizzas displayed on the counter. The pizza is wide but thin but unlike an actual NYC style pizza, it was chewy dough and underwhelming. The area is small so when it’s busy, the line snakes out the door and the seating is extremely limited. Tip - just go when it’s late on the weekends and grab yourself some drunchies. It’ll taste better and you’ll have more fun waiting for your pizza.

I have a second stomach for NY style pizza. it doesn't matter if it's before dinner, or after dinner, or the middle of the night, if there's a good NY slice shop around, I've got room to put a slice of cheese inside me. Enter Joe's in Santa Monica...even though we'd already had a full Italian dinner nearby, here it was beckoning for us to come in...we did. I got a cheese slice. I ate it. I was satisfied. Where we live in L.A. there is a dearth of legitimate NY city slices...there's a lot of places that say "NY Style" but I mean just being round and kind of thin doesn't quite cut it. The crust has to be SUPER thin and crispy...with a good ratio of sauce and not over-cheesed. That's what you get at Joe's. It's a perfect slice of NYC style pizza...just like from back in the old country (Brooklyn.) Thanks for being their Joe's.

** Update: Two years later, Joe's Pizza remains our top choice for pizza in Santa Monica and Los Angeles. The primary drawback is the parking situation; you'll need to search for parking in one of the nearby structures or on the street, and the area can get quite congested.

There's a significant amount of foot traffic in the area, and it's worth noting that homeless individuals are around.

As for the service, Anthony was exceptionally friendly, pleasant, and helpful. During a recent visit with my child, he displayed great patience. Their cheese pizza is my favorite, although I tried their white pizza and found it less to my liking. My child is a big fan of their cheese pizza as well.

Visiting after school can be enjoyable, but once again, the parking situation can be challenging, especially when you have young children in tow.

10/10! Finally found NY pizza that is not too oily or greasy. We ordered the NY cheese pizza for pickup. We loved the taste of every bite. Delicious! Not too salty and the pizza slice is huge!

We knew there is no parking or place to stop, so we just parked in the alley and I waited while my husband went inside to get the pizza. They also offered to bring the pizza outside to us when we placed our order on the phone, so it's nice to know they give you that option.

Thank you for a great experience! We will be...

Had the unfortunate experience of being served by this horrendous establishment. We went there on a Saturday evening, unfortunately around Halloween. There was a drunk and belligerent patron, who was verbally abusive, shoving us and calling us names in an effort to get to the front of the line. After asking for some personal space, he continued to call us dumb b*tches etc. After reaching the counter, the workers fist pumped him, laughed and gave him a discount on the pizza, thinking he was just the best. Upon us telling the employees about how this man was treating us, they said "why are you provoking him and making us the bad guy??" Great - so a patron of yours verbally abuses your other patrons, and you reward him by fist pumping him and giving him a discount on your pizza. For the record, we were NOT some 'silly drunk girls' and it is your responsibility to keep your patrons safe. SHAME on you accepting this behaviour and even MORE shame on you for perpetuating the idea that the 5 women standing in line were the ones causing the trouble when you can clearly see a drunk man shouting names at them. This establishment may want to rethink their brand and what they stand for. We'll be telling everyone about the chauvinism that exists here... Ladies Beware - Uber eats instead if you're looking for a late night...

WARNING, bag snatchers might work here !!

in June 2025, we were eating at Joe’s Pizza when our bag with two laptops was stolen. The other servers at the location refused to let us see the camera that was directly pointing to our table, and also refused to call the owner and told us we had to go to the police. They did so in a very suspicious way and laughed and chuckled as we called the police and called our credit card companies The thief who was a Hispanic, male wearing full sleeves, black shirt, black pants, and the white cap walked straight to a target and tried to use multiple credit cards, but they were denied . We followed him to the target and got a description from target and went back to Joe’s and to our surprise, many of the servers there were wearing long sleeve black shirts, black pants, and had a white or black cap on. Well, we have no proof yet, but there is certainly the likelihood that this was an insider job. We’re following up with the police to get the video and then we’re hoping that the Santa Monica community can help us identify the thief. We will post his picture hereand on other forums like yelp. Just be very careful with your luggage...
